today is totally on the money. Clemson and FSU need to demand football expansion, get a positive response,or gtho. We don't need to wait and get left behind in an even weaker conference. FSU is not going to stand for this, and we shouldn't either. We certainly need to be tied to the 'noles or we will really be screwed.

the truth is, and I'm surprised at the number of people on this board who don't get this, is that the ACC needs us at this point in time more than we need them. Football, not basketball, drives athletic budgets.

There's too much money at stake for the conference to not give a rat's ###. If Clemson and FSU walk, ESPN will re-open negotiations and the price for the football package will drop precipitously.

More the reason to hit the road. Their only interest is the final four.

Something surely needs to happen, and I'm not sure if it is worth our while in finding out ways to overthrow Swofford as the commissioner. Several seem to think that he is a big piece to the destructive puzzle.

Need to expand and add southern football powers:
May 8, 2012, 5:30 PM
|
|
1. USF 2. UCF 3. El Cid 4. Furman 5. USM 6. Tulane 7. Troy
So, tell 'Cuse and Pitt, no, and add two of the above?

I agree with his blog...in order for the ACC to survive, the football powers need to make a stand. The thing that gets me is that he is saying geography of the conferences. If Clemson doesn't want to travel, why would OU and Texas leave their conference and move to the ACC? If those teams ever did leave the Big 12, more likely it would be the PAC 12 or SEC.

There is little the ACC can do now to improve the payouts. They can't kick out Pitt and cuse they just added. Only ND might improve it significantly, but you'd still only have 5-6 teams in a 16 team conference that really cares about football, and that outside viewers will care to watch. Thats worlds apart from the sec, big10, and soon big12.
For the SEC its about increasing markets/TVs because their product is already high quality. For the ACC it needed to increase quality over new markets due to a marginal product, but they didn't do that. No one cares about Top 30-40 teams playing each other, even if you're in top markets. Quality + markets = money, but the principal is quality.
The part about "luring" the top big12 teams away to form a new conference is pure fantasy. And there's little the ACC/Swofford can concede if us/Fsu try to bargain/powerplay. What are they going to concede to increase payouts? We'll be getting 10 mil. less than usuck, and thats before the sec poaches Vtech or whoever to get to 16.
The Big12 has a couple top tier teams. Whats more their 2nd tier teams care about football are often reasonably good, and get national attention. It'd be fun to have more than 2 teams of in conf. play who care as much as we do about football. I like beatin UNC b/c they d!ck us so often, but if we're not in THEIR conf. I couldn't care less if we ever played them again. Only teams I really care about playing are usuck and Georgia, but the SEC isn't calling, and the 9 Inconf. ACC schedule will KO the series with UGA. Lets get in the Big12 while its here, or it'll leave while we're mired in a poached, broke ACC and get thumped by usuck every year. LETS GO
The man most likely to benefit from leaving would be Brad Brownell.
