Who the #### or what the #### is a "Sludgemuffin"?

Some facts:
1) Ford team's dominated the ACC both physically and in the rankings.
2) Ford's teams dominated ACC Top 10 teams incl. Maryland's Boomer Esaison years and UNC's Lawrence Taylor years.
3) Heisman winners Herschel Walker and George Rogers never socred a TD against Clemson in their college careers.
4) Clemson dominated the ACC the two years after winning the Natl Championship. Due to probation, Clemson won on the field and had the best record, but MD was awarded the conf. championship in '83.
5) Probation took a toll on Clemson. Hatfield's 1st team after Ford was fired was the most talented in 10 years. The team hated Hatfield and it shoed on the field.
6) Ford defeated Tom Osborne, Joe Paterno, Barry Switzer, Bobby Bowden, Vince Dooley and Woody Hayes. And they were respected nationally as a hard-nosed team.
7) Ford's Offense's were physical and wore a team down over most games. Over the years there were some great Offensive players incl. Terry Allen but overall the O's were good but not great.
8) The Ford Defense's were phenomenal, and they dominated most plays, most games and most seasons. They did indeed spoil the Clemson fan base and make all Defense's since Ford look weak and scared in comparison.
9) Ford's teams owned South Carolina. Not the team that could not compete against Clemson in the Ford years and owns us now - the entire state of South Carolina. Clemson banners, bumper stickers, T-shirts and fans were the norm from Greenville & North Augusta to Myrtle Beach, Charleston and Hilton Head.
10) Arkansas' team and facilities positively sucked when Ford took over the program. He built up the talent base, but by his own admission, performed poor to average. He said many times he thought he was a good coach until he coached at Arkansa. After Ford was fired, Houston Nutt improved Arkansas' record with Ford's players incl. some talented RB's. 11) You must have been too young or totally oblivious to Clemson football in the late 70's to early 90's.

Yes Danny Ford was a very good coach, maybe a great coach, and likely Clemson's best coach to date.
But, what's the point in living in the past. We have a very good coach and recruiter in Dabo NOW, and I firmly believe that 10 years from now we will all be saying that Dabo is the best Clemson coach ever, after a decade of top 10 finishes and a couple of NCs.

There is no real battle between Danny and Dabo. And Dabo can't compete with memories of physical teams, national respect, and championships for Tiger fans who witnessed them. Beating LSU will be a step towards gaining respect for both Dabo and the program for the +40 fan base who witnessed quality wins vs. quality teams. When your best win in a 10-win season is #63 Ga Tech, it makes respectability hard to achieve.

This was what I was trying to state in my post...those who cannot remember those Ford teams have no clue when trying to compare them to Dabo's. Take a blind poll now and then of who would not want to play us. Would be vastly different. I can't forget those days. Never will. Maybe we will be there again one day...just don't know if Dabo is one to do it
