Bill, perhaps our own thirst for our favorite sport

has given rise to the likes of entities like ESPN which have catered to our passions, and we have played into their efforts hook, line and sinker.

The real problem to me has been the weakness of the NCAA from the start to get a firm grip by developing an equitable, fair organization, which gives all programs the chance for the glories, if you will. That it has failed to do so is the direct fault of the schools themselves to unite to demand such.

My own thinking is that there should be a north, south, east and west grouping of conferences, each with 20 members, each competing within their own geographical areas and each represented in playoff scenarios. Requiring teams and fans to travel across the country defies logic and common sense. The present distribution of funds is disreputable at best, despicable at worst. And the ACC has been right up their among the guilty, going back to our major realignments, even before.

I've said it before: there is a reason the Ivies opted out of bowl games and participation in national title games. They enjoy college football in its original, purest form without the unadulterated horsemanure spread across the realm now. Makes one think their attitudes toward the sport are derivatives of their collective high regards wihin our society as being the "elite" of institutions of higher learning, i.e. a degree from Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc. speaks loudly across our land.

Lastly, I still believe at some point we will see Congressional intervention, sooner rather than later, for the have-nots are well-represented in D.C., and their collective voices will become a screaming chorus too loud for Congress to ignore!

NCAA only has the authority that the universities give it

the blame falls 100% on the schools.

Very well stated

it is a fundamental breakdown on how to run an organization. Unless you want it top heavy which means only a few will feast and the rest will flounder. This is a bad business structure and while it may be profitable and look awesome for awhile, at some point it becomes stale and begins to break down.

NCAA lost all control and now the conferences control the narrative, make up their own rules, impose their own sanctions, etc etc etc.

Can the corruption end after it gets so infected, I do not know.

90s. They started the arms race in college football.

But the spineless NCAA did little to stop it, either because their short-sighted little brains couldn't understand what was going on or because they wanted the money, too.

Don’t blink the way monies and all these absurd conference realignments it wont last.

We are talking college football an amateur sport played by college kids to give them the opportunity to showcase their talents in prep for the NFL, and we have Deion Sanders basically building a new roster in one season. Shady as hell imo but with the current rules it is all legit. Something tells me college athletics was not supposed to be like this but I’m guessing I’m wrong.

I think your point about college football allowing athletes to showcase their skills and develop for the NFL is spot on. I think from the players' perspective, it has been about that - mostly. Fans are struggling with the new free agency players have. Its apparent now more than ever that players don't always feel about a school the way fans wish they did. I'm not a fan of this transfer stuff either, but I think CFB and fans will adapt to it and we'll all keep watching and rooting for our team.

"seems" is the operative word.

And the ACC, Atlantic Coast Conference, just added 2 west coast schools and SMU. Cal and Stanford addition makes 0 sense in terms of anything other than money, none!

College football is in a phase/transition that could end very poorly, not in the near future, but long term.

Teams traveling across the continent to play a conference game, just think about that.

I sincerely hope nobody travels to these games and show the support these moves deserve, which is NONE!
