Playing with a lead

Dec 27, 2022, 9:30 AM

The last few years when we got a lead, especially against a quality opponent I feel like we got ultra-conservative and let a few teams get back into the game.

I know thats a high cultural standard, but that’s a big departure from Dabo’s teams and the mentality prior to that.

I think this shift primarily stems from the confidence in the decision making at the QB position.

I’m really looking forward to getting that “ice-in-your-veins” swagger back where when Clemson gets a lead on you, then we go for the jugular and step on your throat.

I wish we went conservative against SCar and ran the ball.***

There's something in these hills.

Agreed! Still not sure what they were thinking there

We were getting 5 yards a carry with 8-9 guys in the box.

It seemed to me that once Dabo was up 14 points he was willing to trade scores for the rest of the game. That's easy to watch until the 14 closes to 7 and you realize there are 5-10 minutes left in the game and the other team is one Clemson fumble/interception from tying the game.

There was one game this year...can't remember which one...we were up big and sort of laid down. I remember looking around the room and saying "Am I the only one that sees we only have a 4-point lead with 6 minutes left in the game"?!!!!

I really would like to see that boot-on-the-throat mentality. I think Georgia has that.

With the limitations we had at QB, they had no choice but to play a conservative style and just hoping a play worked here and there. It's still a #### Miracle to me we won as many games as we did with 5 at QB. Can only do so much with 25% of the playbook.

Yep, when you can’t consistently pass ..you’re running it 80% of the time against a stacked line. D’s dared us to pass and we couldn’t .. all better now, with a QB that can pass and run our offense. In our last game, heads suddenly popped up from the sand.

A lot of things go into game control/management. Dabo...

has never given 2 shyatts about anything, save winning.

That has been the bane of some "Clemson" fans since Dabo refused to fall in line with their belief of eye test and/or MOV.
