Today, I had the pleasure of visiting the Clemson campus with a large group of students with special needs from Pendleton HS. We walked through Tiger Walk and Peter was eating lunch near the Tiger statue. I approached him to say hey, but said I didn't want to interrupt his lunch. He could not have been more welcoming to the whole group. He introduced himself to students as Peter, took pictures with kids, and helped one young man with getting up and down from a few stairs.
One student asked who he was playing this weekend. Another boisterous student said he had 20 bucks on Miami. Without missing a beat, Peter replied that he was losing that 20.
Love so much that our players "get it". They are much more than athletes. They deserve our support.

I too am thankful for my career choice. After Clemson, I taught math in Georgia for 30 years before retiring to the Clemson area (guess I should be Townville Tiger now) in 2019. Did nothing in education during the pandemic but am now involved with Pendleton as an occasional substitute teacher and coaching the golf teams. Lots of great folks at Pendleton and thankful that the Lord opened these doors.

And for all those angry at Dabo let this marinate for a while because this is the type of men he is trying to build and bring to Clemson. We might not agree on some of his recent comments, portal use, coaching hires, etc. but this we should all agree is bigger and more important than football. These men will end up pay dividends to Clemson and Clemson football for decades.

While I agree with your sentiments. It's not just a Dabo thing. It's a Clemson athletics department values initiative. It permeates through all of our Athletic coaches and departments on what athlete values should be. It doesn't matter if it's Clemson rowing, golf, volleyball, football, track, basketball, or baseball, softball and soon to be Gymnastics etc.
It's absolutely mind blowing what some of our athletes do and participate in on their own. Kudos to our amazing athletics department.

A young man 8 years old recently had a terrible accident and has been in the hospital for several weeks in Greenville. Dabo sent him a video message wishing him well in his recovery. The gymnastics coach and all the girls except for 2 visited him in the hospital and autographed a poster. One set of his grandparents are Gamecocks. Grandma is now a Tiger fan too.
Clemson sure has changed from my time there in the late 80's. Even so, there is still something very special in those hills.

Suwanee, this didn't happen to be the same group that got to hang out with the Clemson women's basketball team was it?
We do have an amazing group of individuals in our athletic department. I've attached a picture because I haven't seen it on any of the Clemson or Clemson media websites.

I don't think this was the same group. The special ed dept at Pendleton does amazing work every day. I am fortunate to sub with them occasionally. They offer such caring support while propelling the kids forward in their lives.

This is so cool to read. Pendleton High School is my Alma Mater. Always loved seeing the special education class. I’m sure this was a really fun experience for them. Keep doing what you are doing at PHS. Go Dogs!
