Our staff can give all kinds of reasons for our offensive

Nov 16, 2021, 10:23 PM

struggles. I think I have seen where Tony Elliot has given reasons for DJ's play this year not being up to last year etc.. But the botom line is, from the very first game right on up until this minute, our offense has been consistent. It has not wavered from one level to another. Ourcoaching staff can come up with all types of rationalem but the bottom line is we look like the most poorly coached offense in the country. I have rewatched, as painful as it is, our games. And even when watching wins over Florida State and Louisville, it is unreal that the offense continues to not get one bit better.

They will simply not be able to outscore Wake Forest. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see it. And what I am really dreading is the trip to Columbia. At this point, I am bracing for a loss to them. Before the season started, I felt they were still years away from being able to beat us. Now, I will be very pleasantly surprised if we go into Columbia and score any more than 17 points. And I would be thankful for all 17 if we get that many. A few weeks ago, I felt our defense could hold them to 17 or less, not so sure now.

I am so glad we are 7-3 instead of 2-8, which we could easily be. But I am worried that even though we are 7-3, we are playing like a team that could be 2-8. I really wonder what the plans are to fix this offense by next year. This year alone will have an adverse affect on recruiting, but if you have two years of no offense and suddenly you have to think back to before the pandemic to remember Clemson having a decent offense, then offensive recruits will avoid coming here. I mean TEnnessee is just over the mountains throwing it all over the park, with tempo.

It would be a real shame if this doesn't get fixed. As long as we have a top level defense, just a slighly above average offense would be good enough to get us in playoff contention, especially with the league we play in. But having no offense throws us right into that mosh pit with all of the other ACC teams. And actually, we are looking up at most of the offenses in our league.

I love Dabo and think he is the greatest thing that has ever happened to Clemson football. But he is being paid $9 million a year and he needs to fix it. He and the $2 million per year offensive coordinator need to figure it out. If you are wondering why this post all of a sudden. Just watched the FSU game again on DVR and the play of the offense is absolutely pathetic.

Let it all out ... let it all out Clemson81to85.

It's OK you'll feel better in a little bit.

After you've settled down, look more critically at the Clemson offense's early season games against OK teams (i.e., GA Tech and Boston College [with BC's 2nd string QB]) vs. the Clemson offense's games against FSU and Louisville.

Despite the O-line problems (which are apparent for various reasons ... injuries, illnesses, and inexperience),, the Clemson offense was significantly better against FSU and Louisville when compared to their performance against GaTech and L'ville.

QB play (making correct reads, improved 'craftiness' in ball-handling, learning to takes snaps under center, not staring down the primary receiver on EVERY pass play) and WR play (instead of ~ 50% drops as in early season, the drop rate is down to ~ 15%).

Watch the games again (since you seem to have the passion to do so), and if you pay attention then you'll see what I'm talking about.

Have a good night and take time to relax.

I to thought we were better vs FSU and Louisville, but when

I just went back and rewwatched on the DVR, we actually look much worse than I thought. It is just mind boggling how inept they are.

^^ Agree mostly..

the Oline being plugged in with newbies & freshman to boot was a ship wreck waiting to happen when big hungry Georgia D came to town..

and who thought DJ would regress immediately out of the gate but maybe he just got blitzed & sacked so much that he fell apart inwardly confidence-wise and started to think too much about how to & what to improve on and thus scrambled his normal internal game that we saw year earlier to be overall unreal in performance.

Hoping he stays gets better & competes versus our incoming Texas QB.

Please read this carefully;
I have just read ,and in fact reread your assessment and not once did you use the one "word" that is as big a part of the problem as any;
You used the words all kind of reasons, consistent, wavered, rationalem ( rational is what I think you meant to say),poorly coached, plans are to fix this offense by next year and he needs to fix it.
But not once did you use the one word that is huge; And that word is "EXCUSES"
Just go back and listen to some of the interviews with both Dabo and Tony and see how many excuses they come up with concerning our offensive struggles.
It's absolutely pathetic.

Love our Tigers. This year's team is just not very good. Disappointing. But life goes on.

Maybe against WF we will see "Remedies".

and I suspect the Georgia loss affected not only our team morale, but our staff's, as well. It certainly affected fan morale.

There has been a noticeable lack of cohesion, which I believe became more pervasive with our close wins and subsequent losses, all accented with loud fan disgruntlement. The simple fact is we, the staff and team just aren't used to losing. What has resulted? a malaise throughout our program and family.

Toss into the mix other factors...poor QB play, problems with our O-line, receivers, questionable play-calling, injuries blah, blah, blah...and you have a sure-fired recipe for major problems.

Are they correctable? Not this season I think, but I'm convinced the staff will go into overdrive to righten the ship next Spring. As for the remainder of this season, Wake will be tough; I have no doubts - absolutely none - that we will beat the Chickens; as for a bowl game: I'll do like I always have and take one-game-at-a-time.

We attributed our offensive woes to Georgia’s defense with our first game. Our only TD was a pick 6 for Georgia. Unfortunately, we saw this same lame, out of sync offense the following weeks against lowly Ga Tech, BC and on and on. It wasn’t the GA game that broke the fans spirit, it was the realization that we truly suck on offense, to the point to where we were one of the worst in the NCAA. TE’s play calling, our QB, WR’s and the OLine confused to when on game day, it looked like their first spring practice. Our D and coach V saved us this year, a probable 2-3 win season without them.
We can only hope and trust Dabo will make the needed changes with TE, and his staff of OJT offensive assistants who have failed miserably to effectively coach or develop our offense.
The “light bulb” in now lit with the Portal and though most hate it, you have to evolve with the game or be left behind.

It’s been a struggle and very frustrating however, it’s been one game at a time and with WF and USuck ahead of us, we will have salvaged the season.

Proud of our Tigers and of the fans that have rallied together each week.

Go Tigers, beat WF and USuck !!!!

Your typical reply to everything. Guess you left off the 1969 this time since being called out for your fetish for little boys?

Nothing to worry about, except the help we need in the ACC

Nov 17, 2021, 8:33 AM

After we beat Wake Saturday in their worst offensive game of the year, we enter the every ranking and get a motivational boost to take on a 5-win Coot team who is on a two-game losing street and hoping to get bowl eligible.

A few weeks ago, I had the nerve to suggest that we could still manage a 10-win season, and I still think we do. Hoping that that 10th win comes in Charlotte, and NOT in the Belk Bowl, but I suspect that we will miss the ACCCG and will have THAT motivational carrot (10th win) dangling in front of us in our bowl game.

As a fan of a team with offensive issues, I wouldn't be too worried about Clemson's ability to score against Wake Forest. Their run defense is just not very good - and if there's one thing the Tigers have shown they CAN do on offense, it's running the football (am I right?)

Re: Our staff can give all kinds of reasons for our offensive

I think it's obvious the offense had issues even when healthy so it's true that injuries don't 100% explain the current issues. However, after the Georgia game I think most of us felt the offense would improve as the season moved along. I think the injuries have at the very least hurt our ability to make those improvements as the season has progressed.

We've seen Shipley look great at times, but he's missed at least a few games. I think the same is true of Pace to some degree as well. That's not to mention the injuries on the OL even further limiting a group that had issues.

If Ross has truly been playing hurt all season then you can't totally ignore what a 100% healthy Ross may have meant to our offense.

Ngata is one who was starting to make a lot of plays for us and then he's been hurt. Williams was showing a lot of promise at the end of last season and he's basically either been out or at least limited by injuries all season. Ladson is another talented guy that's struggling to stay on the field for a 2nd straight season. Collins has started to come on strong over the last 2-3 games and it makes you wonder where our receivers would be if we had all the guys I just mentioned healthy right now.

I'm not saying all of that would give us a top 5 offense suddenly or anything, but it's not fair IMO to just assume we'd still be nearly this bad on offense otherwise.
