HellO to all the Left-wing crazies that torn down historical monuments, street signs, etc and renamed buildings & streets to suit their ideology even though hardly a one has ever done anything in their entire lifetime to warrant a statue, street or building to be dedicated to them.

Growing up in SC in the 60s we were brainwashed with all that confederate hero crap, and I say good riddance to that kind of stuff being done away with. It has nothing to do with anyone understanding the history of those times. In fact all that confederate hero worship that we were fed, kept us from learning the true history.
In Edgefield during grade school we would visit and celebrate Oakley Park, the Red Shirt shrine. The Red Shirts were a terror group whose main purpose was to intimidate and keep blacks from gaining any political power through the ballot.
Ben Tilman, Wade Hampton, and Ellison D. Smith were some of their leaders.

Totally agree that any time a group of random people decide they personally no longer care to see a piece of public property, whether it's art, or a statue or building, they should be able to rip/burn it down whenever they want. Can't possibly imagine why anyone would have a problem with that. What a bunch of crybabies.

And remember that of the thousands of people that tore town hundreds of monuments in the middle of the night, or even in broad daylight, none of them were charged with anything. The mob was allowed to destroy whatever they didn't like and the rest of us were told to stand there and watch along with the apparently helpless police. Yet we have to hear white trash leftists on here deny there aren't two different judicial systems in this country. One for left wing trash, who can do whatever they want, and one for everyone else. Anyone who thinks he was a right-winger or even remotely conservative needs to read his book The Road to Wigan Pier. And if you don’t get THAT, give up on trying to understand 1984. Maybe find a middle school teacher to explain Animal Farm to you and go from there.

now as it did then. 1984 was clear that "Big Brother" essentially has history re-written constantly so that he is never wrong and people end up forgetting what was written the first time around. I would imagine nowadays Orwell would see Democratic Socialism as being no different than Communism. He would likely be a libertarian.
