Especially with an already hurt shoulder. One good hit and we're down to our scout team quarterbacks running the show.

Cole isn't a Chad Morris recruit. QB runs will be a major part of his playbook until he leaves.

What does him being a Chad recruit have to do with anything?

Chad needs to know his personnel and realize that running him is a waste of time.

Its not like asking PJ to change his whole O...

Taking out the QB run wouldnt change our whole philosophy on O. Just scrap the play. Scrap the read plays, and just run power plays between the tackles. Its a very similar play, no philosophical change. I mean, if Chad cant make an adjustment based on his personnel, then he's not a good coach. You gotta put your players in the best position to succeed and execute and running him isnt doing that.

Power plays? With our current state at offensive line?

I don't see that going over very well. I guarantee you if we tried that, you wouldn't be happy, and about a million other people would then be disappointed...
You know it's bad when your taking DTs and asking them to help out on the line...

When we pulled guards and cut out the zone crap against...

Louisville the last drive it worked well. When I say power play I mean the play concept and design, like pulling guards. When we run that, we actually do well with it. We struggle with the zone blocking schemes and reads because we cant go one on one and open holes.

Plus we are having trouble running zone read because our TE'S aren't blocking. When they do get a hat on their guy they almost immediately release. Then in the pass game our younger better backs catch hell in pass protection. Many times they've whiffed on blocks.

zone block. Plus, its almost wasted bc CJ Davidson struggles seeing the cutback. Choice has good vision, and Gallman is average. But both of them are young and will get better. I just think with Choice, we can honestly run more power. We can run the QB off of that though bc you pull the guard further than normal and block the DE so that there is no read. Its essentially a counter with the QB. Gotta get more creative. Its not a philosophical change, just an Xs and Os thing.

You're right, it's not a philosophy change. It's just minor tweaking to the offense installed which is what he gets paid to do.

It's a huge part of our/his offense. The offense is supposed to remain unpredictable. We can't afford to thin down our playbook anymore. Plus Chad runs plays based off of the QB runs. Sometimes plays that aren't effective are the reason other plays work for big gains.

What do we run that is set up off a QB run?

Name a play that works off a QB run when Cole is in the game. Chad runs the reads to get the QB in space, but Cole isnt effective that way and he needs to see that. The playbook may benefit from being pulled back, bc we wasted a ton of plays today trying to get Cole's feet going when we couldve been hitting them with more screens. When he lets Cole throw downfield, he's doing okay.

I'd love to see us run the screen to Scott a few times (that guy runs hard after the catch like Sammy), then bust the defense over the top with a screen and go to Williams.

and throw a screen to the TE. We ended up hitting some passes downfield so it backed BC off. But when they were in the box I was hoping we'd do it. We ran it with Dwayne Allen some. I think Leggett is atheltic enough to get some good yards with that.

We ran the tunnel/mid screen with DA a ton in the red zone or in 3rd and 7+ and it worked almost all the time. Even ran it with Ford.

I completely understand Coach Morris running his plays in his system and the qb power is a part of it but when your quarterback is already hurt just save that play for another day.

Just because running the QB is part of the system doesn't mean you force with a slow awkward moving QB who's hurt. Barry Switzer's system was wishbone at OU but when he went to the cowboys he didn't have troy aikman running triple option

I can understand him running Cole some when he's healthy, but when you run him with an already busted shoulder you're asking for trouble.

I think the Chad is calling the same plays intended for DW. I am pleased overall with Cole's performance today. He made a drive when he needed too.

well enough to get a win. But I thought at least one play would involve the wildcat with Adam Choice throwing a pass.

Choice did run one wildcat play and got injured so that's why we didn't see it anymore. I think he had game planned the wildcat in for Choice today but had to adjust.

It was an option read with a RB in at QB. Why not line up and run it up the middle with the read like everyone else does. If you are gonna read, have it off a jet sweep so we can keep the RB between the tackles instead of going off tackle on the read like he did. terrible play design. Ive literally never seen a Wildcat run like that.

I was actually excited to see Choice play Wildcat on a play. The play didn't end well THIS time, but showed they are at least thinking about and tinkering with QB operations with an open mind.

...of critical discussion without the bile and vitriol. Some very good comments on play calling and perceived shortcomings, but also some coherent thought about what could be done.
THIS to my mind, is much more effective and pleasant to read than "Cole stinks!"
"Morris stinks!"
Oh yeah!
Sez You!
You're a Coot!
No YOU'RE a Coot!
That's what you sister said!
You and who's army?
Blah-blah-freakin' blah!
Many thanks for discussion in which team loyalty and personal gender preferences were part of the equation,
