Look, I get it. It's a fair assessment to say that NFL defenses will start game planning to neutralize the effectiveness of what Deshaun is doing right now. After all, it's professional football, and their paid to do these kind of things. What I don't agree with is the sentiment that Deshaun still can't be successful throughout the rest of the season, and I do not agree that Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, and Josh Rosen would be chosen ahead of Watson/Trubisky. I also don't agree that it's "too small of a sample size" to really judge how good Watson is/will be. The kid played 2 and a half full seasons, and back to back championships with a ring on the second trip against big bad Alabama. I understand that sample size comment for Trubisky, but even Trubisky did decently well, mixed with his measurables, to earn a first round draft grade. So far, nothing about either of the big 3 QBs in college this year makes me think any of them are "better" than Watson, and that's not me being a Clemson homer. In fact, Darnold has just as many interceptions as touchdowns and he's still being lauded over. Watson did have a turnover issue, but you can't deny the guy is the one you want on your team. They DESTROYED him with comments about being erratic, inaccurate, and small framed. They robbed him of a Heisman twice.
Thing is, what makes McShay think Watson can't be as successful if not more successful than say.....Dak Prescott, who in college was anything but a qb you'd think would be a "franchise qb" for ANY team in the pros?
I hope Trubisky does well, too. But don't try to take away the light that shines for Deshaun and every team he's been a part of.
