LOS positives

3

Sep 6, 2023, 9:41 AM

Re-watched the game from the ACC command post viewpoint and saw alot of positives on the LOS. Duke has guys up front that can play with any Power5 school in the country and the depth to keep em fresh. Both sides of our LOS played em tough. Still some fundamental movement and recognizing stunts on the O-line that I think our tackles need to get better at. Sometimes Blake Miller misses his first step(especially pass blocking (crucial mistake as a OT)). But alot of positives on the LOS if anyone is looking for some. Thomas Austin seems to know what he's doing carrying the torch from old Robbie.

OL played well. Dabo mentioned it last night as well.

I don’t have access to the paid data but someone mentioned yesterday that 4 of our top 6 PFF player ratings on offense were OL. The other 2 mixed in were Mafah and Shipley. Didn’t they miss on some things? Sure that is always the case especially first game. Best opening day OL performance I can remember. Injuries withstanding, OLs usually get a lot better as the season moves along because they have to work in unison and that takes game experience together.

Im guessing one was Putnam for sure. He was definitely the anchor in that Oline. He was chipping, double blocking, getting to the next level he played a great game I think. But yea, there were misses. Duke has a good D-line as well, so those misses were exasperated. But as a whole unit, I think your 100% right. They got good film to correct some mistakes and alot of positives to take from it. It all starts in the trenches and I sure am glad we look like we are headed in a positive direction with that unit.

But Robbie....

Got chased out (retired) after it was apparent that the old Vandy coach wasn't recruiting or developing linemen worth a #### at Clemson

Ya know how many OL Clemson had drafted to the NFL under Caldwell in his 10 year stint? (2011-2021)

6.

Tyler Shatley (undrafted Free agent)
Jackson Carman (2nd round draft pick)
John Simpson (4th round draft pick)
Tremayne Anchrum (7th round draft pick)
Jorden McFadden (5th round draft pick)
Brandon Thomas (3rd round draft pick)

Trust me! I was on the bandwagon to get Robbie out. It was 2019 when I started calling for it. But some of these guys now are products of Robbies early stage recruiting. But I agree, I am glad we moved away from Caldwell.
