I have a floating holiday for the Friday after thanksgiving that I have to use within 60 days or I lose it. Wife’s parents got 3 days in Hilton Head this next weekend for a two bedroom condo and asked if we wanted to go. So I submitted the day off for Friday the 26th. Boss of never answers my request. I remind him, he says nothing back.
So yesterday I send this text.
“Can you please let me know when I can expect a response to my request to use my floater holiday that is about to expire? “
This was the response I got. “I responded last night. I am not approving any time off right now until your territory is at least back into the green outside of your time off coming up in Feb.”
Response back “I didn't know sales numbers were a prerequisite for my company benefits; Interesting and concerning”
To which I of course then sent this screen shot to the VP and HR and asked if it was company policy that benefits were not allowed if sales were down. VP responds back w this.
“No one can deny PTO due to off pace to goal, PTO is granted through consideration of calendar date and what is already on the books for that day. Manager can deny request with a valid reason, pace to goal is not a valid reason. David please address .”
So then boss calls me this morn and says please resubmit the time off request. Lutz

It sounds like a win win scenario.

You get the floater holiday, and if you don’t get back to quota, you get a TON more vacation days to use.

McLuvs: Would a half day Thursday be unreasonable? And try to make up most of those hours before end of day Friday?
Bossman: sure, maybe you will have the incurred costs by tomorrow
Wait, did he mean it was unreasonable?

I saw one last week that outlined that our PTO is a GRANT--and NOT earned.
But weirdly, a certain amount is GRANTED after a certain amount of time at the company.
I guess they make sure that is spelled out so that when fired, no one thinks they get to take any of that GRANTED time with them.

We can thank Netflix for that little sneaky HR gem.
Supposed to be able to take whenever you want off if your work is kept up with, but ended up being a bunch of bosses passively aggressive doing what JFB’s boss did “well I suppose, if you really feel comfortable with where you are on these projects, I guess” so people ended up self-restricting their own days off out of fear.
Oh yeah, and because their was no official amount of PTO given, nothing to pay when someone left.

They sprung that on us on like a random Wednesday as some big benefit. I knew exactly what that was all about--we laid off about 1000 people the next week.
With no merit increase this year and limited bonuses, I'll be taking all 5 or 6 weeks (whatever it is now..seems to keep changing) of my PTO "grant". I normally only take about a week total. Last year was the first time in a decade (literally) I took an entire week at once.
If I'm still here at year end, I won't be losing any PTO this year that's for sure.

At an old company I worked for, you got to choose to take either Presidents Day or MLK day off as a paid holiday, but not both.
If you were there on MLK day, it was whiter than a Lawrence Welk audience. Working Presidents Day was like being in the audience for a Madea movie.
Always thought it was just sociologically funny.
