Offensive Tendencies Corrected

Aug 27, 2022, 5:08 AM

One thing we hope is addressed this year was offensive alignment tendencies. Over the last couple of seasons, I noticed the backs would a lot of times give away a pass call presnap. The back would stand up more tipping off he was pass blocking already. Fundamentals weren’t as crisp, it seemed like. Also, certain formations with the wideouts tipped off the screen. Hope the fundamentals are crisp and Streeter uses the middle of field more. Should be interesting this year, especially October and November. Go Tigers

I'm sure there were a lot of things done by the team that tipped off opposing teams what we were about to do next, but nothing tipped teams off more than the sticks showing that our next down was 1st and 10, that told every opponent that we played to load the box bc, we were running the ball, and TE never had a plan to change the play when he seen 7 D line on the LOS, and everybody playing closer to the LOS, and it never changed!!! Nobody could waste a 1st down better than TE!!!

We have also gotten away from a lot of the "eye candy"

pre-snap motion and realignment that was part of the original Chad Morris spread offense. We should get back to that, and, if we have the personnel to operate it, run some HUNH again as well.

Come on man. We did much much better without "eye candy"

We weren't using that stuff in either of the national championship seasons, for instance.

Replay Man, I agree with you. Hopefully we clean up soon obvious tendencies etc. I like the situation were in, we have new coordinators, but for the most part we have the same staff. So unlike some programs, we are not changing systems, but hopefully cleaning up “looks” and details. Hopefully fresh look, new look, but same fundamentals on D and O.

2021 was the most productive Clemson passing offense in

program history. I don't think we were giving away passes. We've done great job of scouting our own tendencies and changing as needed.

Last year, before the season, a guy that breaks down film for UGA fans had a video that highlighted presnap tendencies. Specifically at center, there was a clear pattern of calling out pass blocking versus run blocking. It was definitely there earlier in the season but less so later in the year. Similarly two years ago, someone pointed out that TLaw had a different presnap depending on the play type but he cleaned that up his last season. I think those games within the game are fascinating.
