Offensive Concerns that must be corrected

Oct 4, 2015, 3:30 PM

Good day Tiger Faithful!
Last night a was a great but lucky win (maybe Dabo found Jesus a ticket after all)

I have some observations about our Offense that I want to share for review and discussion:

1. Understanding Mike Williams is a huge loss, However the WR corps (from a talent perspective) is perhaps the single deepest position on this team yet we cannot (or are unwilling) stretch the field and create explosive plays in the passing game. This doesn't really make a lot of sense to me considering the speed we have at the position, Artavis, Ray-Ray, Dion Cain and Peake are capable of this but to my recollection they tried only 2 20+ yard passes last night (Artavis was targeted in the endzone as was Peake on the pick). This is a staple of this offense and not having that as part of the arsenal is a huge concern.

2. Zero production from the tight ends, I know that the first TD was to TE but again we are not targeting any 8-10 yard crossing or timing/sit-down routes (curls and square ins and such) this again is a huge part of the passing game and to my opinion we are not seeing enough of these type plays. Consider this last night the average per pass attempt (NOT PER COMPLETION) was less than 4.5 yards, ND was twice that. So what the hell has happened to the passing game? I can't be a lack of pass protection as we did not give up a sack yesterday. Is it play calling? Sure easy to blame the new coordinators, is it Deshaun? Sophomore Slump? It happens but I still think this kid is special.

3. Perimeter Running game, again we have a lot of speed at the RB position and running between the tackles is critical but mixing it up with QB sweep option and speed pitch to the corner is something that cannot be eliminate if we are going to have success long term. Ray-Ray Mcloud is a perfect for this package but we don't have it in the wheelhouse?

4. Traditional RB screens, haven't seen us execute one all year, WR screens are ok but the are easily diagnosed the entire RB screen concept is to catch the D in a misdirection we are not even trying to take advantage of this.

5. Tentative, Tentative, Tentative, If you have all this skill at QB, RB and WR along with decent TE's it's time to be more aggressive. Anyway that's my two cents thanks for reading my rant. - T

Enjoy the win. You need to stop pretending to know more than the coaches.

The opponents defense determines what you do on offense. The long ball is being taken away by the coverage teams. Perhaps throwing into double and triple coverage isn't what the coaches want to do.

.... and you think it would have been a good idea to throw the ball more? We were underdogs on our own turf it a storm playing a top ranked team. We see things every week that we can make better, but our TIGERS did great last night.

Agree with ^^^.
Gee wiz. If we would have done those things and turned it over in the monsoon, you'd be one here writing other complaints.

I believe we are hiding more of the offense for future games. We still have a few tough games to play. Did not like the conservative play calling at the end of the game.
