uh, diseases spread from trade also...

So even if you stopped Americans from traveling abroad or prevent any visitors from coming into the country, it can still be spread from products and materials that come into the USA. The Black Plague was spread through trade routes established by the Mongolian empire that went into Europe. So this really has nothing to do with "protecting borders".

By your logic to "protect our borders" you shouldn't be allowed to re enter the country once you have moved to Australia, because you could be bringing in diseases from Australia and Asia.

I was screened for three hours before I could touch their land. If there is a major outbreak, people who are documented will be screened before entry

And what if you get a disease before there is widespread outbreak...

you wouldn't be screened and would be bringing it back to the USA. Point is your "protecting borders" thing has nothing to do with diseases spreading across the world. To prevent that you would have to end trade and stop letting people from going out of their home country

You are correct

However, your argument is summarized by saying that any disease can come into the country by multiple venues; therefore, why should we worry about enhancing border protection?
That is like saying I should never worry about practicing safe sex (i.e. wearing a condom) because I will most likely get an STD anyway.

You could build a 500 foot wall around the country and diseases would still spread into the country; because of trade, tourists visiting the USA, legal immigrants, and Americans who travel abroad. Diseases spreading have nothing to do with "protecting the border".

Yes sir, those people are tracked and cross-referenced with

current outbreaks. Because I was documented in a swine-flu hot-spot, I went through vigorous screening. However, if I was undocumented, there would be zero accountability. It's a probability issue. The odds are more likely that an outbreak will be mitigated when people are documented.

Yea, I just moved back to the US from Brasil...it's a huge crisis down there right now. My wife and I would kill mosquitos and then have to check their color/pattern.
