Notre Dame for Homecoming, thought 2

1

Oct 4, 2023, 5:28 AM

"You always choose a team you can beat for Homecoming".

"It'll already be packed for Notre Dame."

"You don't need a marquee opponent for Homecoming."

do any of you all ever have a thought of your own, or do you simply go with what's always been done? simply take the explanation that's been given to you?

thought so....

riddle me this: what's the last real "big game win" that Clemson has had? and if you say freaking UNCheat in the ACCCG, someone should backhand you. UNC is NOT a BIG WIN; will never, ever be a big football win. And if you say anything at all about Cheeze-it's, well, they shouldn't even find the body in that circumstance.

Clemson needs the Notre Dame win... "needs" it, and badly. As bad as Dabo ever "needed" a noteworthy win. Auburn 2010... and 2011 bad. LSU 2012 bad. Florida State 2015 bad....

Al.a.bama 2016 bad...

And whatever we could have orchestrated to have helped our momentum in that game should have been done. Forthwith.

Beating patsies for Homecoming devalues the game; it doesn't make it special in any way. People are such lemmings in their thought processes... even in the AD's office.

We could have brought the team back to Death Valley after 2 tough wins at Miami and NCSU, to stand at the top of that Hill and to literally look down upon Notre Dame before a Homecoming crowd. Not a "great" crowd; not an "expectant" crowd; not a "sold out" crowd; but a Homecoming crowd. One full of happiness and celebration, not tenseness and trepidation. The team to be instead immersed in and buoyed by all of that pomp and circumstance, all the collision of color, trimming, and festival, all the natural energy in ringing sounds made by bright, Homecoming faces.

The team would have literally looked down upon Notre Dame with all of that around them and seen Notre Dame as no one else in the CFB world sees them: not as some historic or iconic program, but instead as simply the next victim to be dispatched, and with prejudice.

Indeed, in the Roman days, as Emperors looked down upon such scenes, they were met with roiling seas of emphatically down-turned thumbs, and a happy beheading, or two, to be found...

Do you remember how demoralizing is feels to lose a homecoming game? You me, it takes a lot of the joy out of the occasion.

I'm sure Syracuse scheduling us for their homecoming last week gave our Tigers some extra motivation, simply because usually that game is designated to be against a team that should take the L home.

ND is truly a must win, I agree, but I never want to see a true marquee match-up for homecoming. IMO, the risk is greater than the reward.

Homecoming is a time for alumni to return to campus with

their families from near and far. The game is just part of the day.

Notre Dame is the most expensive, highest demand ticket of the year making it a tough get for those alumni who live too far away to have season tickets.

will be a big win if they are undefeated and maybe even a bigger win if they already have 1 ACC loss..

UNC was a big win November 7, 1981.

The Greenville News had one of their best headlines ever: CLEMSON IS “10-8CIOUS”
