Clemson is playing for its future this coming season. Getting back to the CFP would go a long way towards quieting the doubters who say the Clemson run is over. WINNING another Natty would up Clemson's stock considerably as a potential member of another conference. Beating a Georgia or an Alabama to do it would be even more gratifying.

Coupled with what you just mentioned is why NO ONE wants Clemson. What better way to eliminate the competition.

The past two yrs have from a timing perspective have had an immeasurable impact. Clemson Football is respected but also qualified by some media pundits as past tense.

Which is funny because they were declaring Tennessee back and they haven't been relevant since T. Martin.
Winnin a bunch of games isn't the end game. Clemson does that.
I'm getting at the fact, the narrative can be past tense all they want, but kids still know they want to play with that paw on their helmets. As evidenced by the high level players Clemson continues to sign despite the negative recruiting and past tense commentary by media types.
