Students to football seats per school
Apr 13, 2016, 11:01 PM
|
|
I feel like this point is being completely missed. Some schools must charge some fee due to shear number of students,
SEC and ACC ratios
SEC:
Florida: 51,474 students. 88,548 seats = 1.72 seats per student Georgia: 35,197 students. 92,746 seats = 2.64 seats per student South Carolina: 31,980 students. 80,250 seats = 2.51 SPS Tennessee: 27,410 students. 102,455 seats = 3.74 SPS Vanderbilt: 12,686 students. 40,350 seats = 3.18 SPS Missouri: 35,435 students. 71,168 seats = 2.00 SPS Alabama: 37,100 students. 101,821 seats = 2.75 SPS Auburn: 27,287 students. 87,451 seats = 3.20 SPS Ole Miss: 23,096 students. 58,580 seats = 2.53 SPS Miss State: 20,138 students. 61,337 seats = 3.05 SPS Arkansas: 26,301 students. 72,000 seats = 2.74 SPS LSU: 31,527 students. 102,321 seats = 3.28 SPS Texas A&M: 62,185 students. 102,500 seats = 1.65 SPS
ACC:
Boston College: 14,100 students. 44,500 seats = 3.15 SPS NC State: 34,015 students. 60,000 seats = 1.76 SPS Florida State: 41,773 students. 82,342 seats = 1.97 SPS Wake Forest: 7,669 students. 31,202 seats = 4.06 SPS Syracuse: 21,789 students. 49,250 seats = 2.26 SPS Louisville: 22,298 students. 55,000 seats = 2.47 SPS Duke: 14,950 students. 33,941 seats = 2.27 SPS North Carolina: 29,084 students. 62,980 seats = 2.17 SPS Georgia Tech: 15,132 students. 55,000 seats = 3.63 SPS Miami: 16,774 students. 76,500 seats = 4.56 SPS Pitt: 28,617 students. 65,500 seats = 2.29 SPS Virginia: 21,985 students. 61,500 seats = 2.80 SPS Virginia Tech: 30,598 students. 66,233 seats = 2.16 SPS
and the grand finale...
Clemson: 21,303 students. 81,500 seats = 3.82 SPS
Clemson ranks only behind Wake Forest and Miami in # of seats available per student. and Miami has a stadium way off campus that nobody goes to and Wake is not a passionate football school with few fans. Clemson is way ahead of the other big football schools in terms of how much is available.
So tell me again why we now need to charge our students $32.14 per game to enjoy a football game at their own university when no Clemson student before them has had to?

Would you like some cheese with that whine? Get a job and grow up. If you are crying about $32.14 a game you have a real shock coming to you when you enter the real world. I will take that deal for the rest of my life.

The research is accurate as far as it goes, but many of those schools charge ALL Students an athletic fee. Clemson does not charge an athletic fee.

That athletic fee will be next . It's probably just under the table . There is only progress in America where there are enough people to squeeze it out of .

How do you know he's not already "in the real world"? What if he is and this is just as shocking to him all the same?
Or are you one of those who likes to preach virtues because, more than anything, you're trying to convince yourself those things are true? I don't know why you feel the need to be so condescending when you played fiddle to the ravaging of the US economy and with the foregone conclusion that you have already taken from the giving tree more than T_I_P and similar-aged folks ever will.
I'm sorry, the irony of the "older generation" preaching hard work and frugality when those values are little more than a facade just gets old to watch. Everyone knows the truth.

This is aolid research TIP , and I actually agree with you here . However , after the gavel bangs , the law has been made . I'm afraid this one is in the books my tennis loving friend , and no amount of logic or nostalgia will revert it .

Hey, how about allow the students to totally enjoy there time in school!!! Let them always remember that they did indeed have the greatest experience possible while at Dear Ole Clemson!!! !!!!!!

I'm amazed at how many of you insist on the newest facilities and big coaching contracts to stay competitive, but don't want to do what it takes to make sure enough money is available for those things.
Why don't you think students should be given the option to purchase a reserved seat in the lower bowl at a very reasonable price? Nobody is requiring it.

Free tickets are like free drugs! First you get the students hooked on Death Valley, then, once they graduate you charge them very high prices.
If you have not noticed, Clemson is at a disadvantage in terms of geography. At least 40% of the people in Death Valley have traveled over 200 miles round trip just to be there.

Add to the calculation the number of SEASON tickets sold wachter and the number of seats available to students drops drastically.

The problem with your argument is
Apr 14, 2016, 5:38 AM
|
|
You are considering supply without considering demand. What does It matter how many seats are available per student when there are people willing to pay much more to sit in those same seats. It's simple exonomics.
I'd gladly pay only $32 a game to sit there. Also...it's only a couple hundred dollars...if you can't swing that, you probably don't need to be watching such an expensive sport. Because after college, it won't be $32 a game anymore.

What an absurd metric
Apr 14, 2016, 8:26 AM

seats per student? You have to take stadium size, subtract the season ticket holders, subtract out the visiting section, publicly available tickets to figure out the available seat per student. Then you have to multiply the cost per seat to figure out the opportunity cost that the school has been losing by giving away tickets to the students for years. Miami, WFU, Vandy, Kentucky can give away seats because NOBODY wants to go to their games and thus they aren't missing out on any revenue.
Of those schools, how many of them guarantee a ticket to every student and how many have a lottery to determine who gets in the stadium?

today's poor students drive SUVs, and drink craft beer and bottled water out of yeti coolers. they wear $150 sneakers, dress in designer clothes, and wear Oakley shades. they have "unlimited talk and data" on their smart phones. they have big screen hi def TVs in their apartments but they can't afford $250 for tix. but hey dont worry, bernie will fix this for all you poor unfortunate ones.

You're obviously out of touch with who the real "poor students" are if you believe this. I don't drive a SUV, I drink the cheapest beer Bilo sells, don't own a Yeti, have been wearing the same $60 Nikes for 3 years, don't own Oakleys, and I have a job to support myself while in school. You probably don't see the "poor student" when you're in Clemson because they're all at work.

TIP I get what you are saying but Clemson also offers equal to if not more student tickets than all of those schools with larger student bodies. They charge a fee to every student on campus and then don't even make it possible for every student to attend.
Yes it is a money grab, but even Clemson's new plan compares favorability to almost everyone else in the Big 5.
