Tough. In the middle of what may turn into a blizzard later today. Already cleared 7” so far with several inches more to fall with winds in excess of 50 mph later today. Going to be busy with my snow thrower, Big self propelled with a canopy so I will be ok with that setup. Have to take it easy sense I had heart surgery and bladder cancer surgery in the fall.

I had a close friend who was shoveling snow off his walkway and dropped dead of heart attack. At least you are using a snow blower. Take it easy.

OVER, and then dig yourself out? None of us down south have any concept of having to shovel or snowblow away snowdrifts, so genuinely curious as to reasoning on this.

If the snow gets higher than the top of your blower you will have to take small "bites" of the drifts and then back up to get what fell on top of you blower. Overall time spent will be longer and you won't have the natural breaks to go inside and warm up. My experience was much over 8" and you will regret not having done it in phases like he is.

It’s easier to shovel three inches of snow four times than twelve inches of snow once.
I live in Buffalo. Last winter I shoveled out of two four foot snowstorms. It’s punishing work.

We lived in Erie PA for about 10 years and dealt with lake effect snow there. Could easily snow 25-30 inches overnight. 3-4 inches an hour. Have to keep up with it or it becomes overwhelming. Waiting until it is over would be kind of like waiting until the end of fall and only cutting your grass once each summer in SC. I had a tractor with a 48” snow blower on it for the long driveway and a walk behind for the sidewalks and close areas. So glad I moved back to SC!

My son sent me a text from Arlington Heights, IL and said they were getting a lot of snow and more to come. He said they were looking at getting a foot of snow.
I'm glad I retired and moved back home.

Bad winters and crappy (crap shoot) springs are replaced by 80 degree summer days with low humidity and great fall days to make up for it.
