Right now, the Big House holds the highest capacity at 107,000.
But seeing where this sport is going financially, when do we expect to start seeing stadiums be rebuilt with more capacity?
During the peak of Clemson’s dominance, do you believe a Death Valley stadium of 150,000 open seats would be filled all the way up?
In 100 years, how much bigger do you see stadiums being?

you see empty corners in almost every one of the big stadiums around the country. There is not a demand for more tickets really unless they were to drastically reduce ticket prices. It's more about TV these days

Ticket pricing is one factor, but the other factors are sight lines and amenities. One of the biggest problems with stadiums such as ours is adding of seats vs a ground up design. Simply adding seats, a half-mile from the field with terrible sight lines is not very appealing to fans. As the other poster stated, amenities like beer gardens or social areas with great sight lines are the most important factors. This is why seats in the west zone are in such demand even at a premium price, yet we can't fill the upper deck corners.

these days, you can watch the game much better on a TV and see what is happening than you can way up at the top of the upper deck. This was of course not the case back in the day when most games were on radio or even in non HD tv without all of the angles we have today.
The reason people still go to games despite worse sight lines is the atmosphere and being around the people. But if you can create that same atmosphere at a beer garden or fan zone with a lavish TV, then you can definitely see why people choose not to sit way up high.

Stadium capacity will begin to decrease with most stadiums. More social spaces and drinking rails will be added along with luxury boxes which will decrease attendance numbers. With the exception of a few, most stadiums never sell out every game.

One great problem with TV is listening to commentary from a bunch of hand picked idiots like ESPN hires...also you don't get the real flavor of the game from a TV...more comfort but less thrill but having to put up with what some `has been` thinks is frankly nauseating...most of the time I turn off the sound and do play by play for my wife! Money is flowing out of this country...soon few will be able to afford games in person...killed the goose!

I don't think we'll see much expansion in seating at most of the stadiums larger than 80K. The focus for most athletic departments has been on facilities for the players and upgrading existing stadiums with luxury seating and luxury boxes.
Keep in mind that schools like Michigan/Tennessee/Ohio State have much larger enrollments and consequently, larger alumni bases to pull 100K. Also, ticket prices are higher than ever making it more difficult for people to afford them.

The trend is going to be stadiums taking out seats to put in more club or luxury seats. We have seen this at Clemson in the past few years. I am not a fan but its the way it is.

Yep Neyland(UT) just took out seats in the upper deck that took them down from 104K- 101.9 to put in an open party deck and bar/table top seating like the Braves stadium.

Tennessee actually had north of 107,000 seats in the late 1990's. At the time it was the largest on campus stadium in the country.
The Tennessee fans used to complain when they "only" had 105,000 for a Vanderbilt game in November in 38 degrees and raining.
They shrank the seating capacity to add the east sky boxes and then shrank it again to add the jumbotron in the north upper deck.
They weren't selling out much in the Dooley/Jones/Pruitt years.
It's more like the good old days for them now.

...and Memorial Stadium's "capacity" is 81,500, but we've had more fans than that several times. The record is over 86k.

I’ve sat in Neyland. Better like your neighbor’s ###. That relic should get seats to fit the fans butts. Should realistically hold about 85,000 max.

They definitely getting smaller. They are focusing more on money making seats and boxes and stuff. The Shoe went down in capacity recently. Nebraska as well. And Wisconsin. It just like 2-4 thousand, but it’s something. There has been talk for a while of replacing PSU’s stadium. Renovating it seems to be not worth it. I would think it will be somewhat smaller if/when its ever replaced.

which is a season when they're in the hunt for a CFP berth. (I feel the need to define "winning" now that the 98.5 have co-opted it in keeping with their everybody-wins agenda.)
I noticed a good number of buttless seats at Wake. Mostly upper-deckers. If they lose to Miami, DV will be downright roomy for GATetch ... talk about a yawner.

Know they could not. in 2016 and 2018 their average home attendance was not even a sellout.
Maybe against USuCk they might get 110,000 or a few opponents of high caliber but it would be rare.

that Aggie-Clemson game back in whenever (2017?) at Kyle was a ton of fun. Kyle holds about 103,000 and the rafters were bouncing.
It's a fantastic place with all the Aggies doing their Aggie things the entire game. Talk about fans. The smarmy 98.5ers have NOTHING on the average Aggie fan.

The NFL, financially, is massively ahead of CFB. Their stadiums are smaller.
Higher revenue has no correlation with bigger stadiums. Not sure what you are trying to connect here...

Football is a dying sport. May not seem that way now, but younger generations are slowly moving to less contact sports. Over time, there won’t be enough kids playing football to maintain the current status. In addition, the pay for play environment is turning many fans away from what they once loved.

I believe football stadiums are at their peak now. They usually will never be filled unless it’s a “big game”. Every game is on TV now compared to just a few some time ago. The expense is going to get to the younger generation as well.

I expect capacity to decrease as college football follows NFL lead and provides actual seats with ample space in the future. Michigan crams 110,000 where an NFL team would put 80,000.

You can see it in the stadiums pro we've played in......Hard Rock, Levi's Stadium, Don't know the name of the stadium in Arizona now....they're all about 60-65000. All the seats are good and the stadiums themselves are nothing beautiful. Bright TV lights though and everything looks good on TV....

Guys it is okay, size doesn't really matter!
One of the best games I have been to was in the late 90's, Houston @ Rice. It was 31° at kickoff. It snowed the night before and the bleachers were frozen. I don't know what their seating capacity is, but it was darn near full.
I have been to lsu and sat in the nose bleeds watching the seagulls fly lower than where I sat. It was loud, but it left a lot to be desired. The tailgating was awful.
I lived half a mile from Autzen Stadium (pre-reno) and when the ducks could spell "win". The stadium was nearly empty every Saturday. Fair weather fans for sure.
The shoe is pretty nuts on gameday but Sunday-Friday, if you aren't on campus, you wouldn't know college football was played in town.
Big or small, it is about the fan base. I moved to Aiken in 98 from Eugene. My second week in town, my youth pastor took me to a THE Death Valley for a game against Duke. It was the best experience I have had. My dad graduated from UT and we went to Austin a few times while living around Houston, but a packed day at any other stadium can't replicate the emotion and passion of Clemson University. I hope Clemson doesn't expand passed 90k, make fans fight for tickets. Make having a seat mean something.
