Dear Dabo

Oct 9, 2023, 4:19 PM

If possible why not forget about the redshirt mess and try out those freshmen WRs who looked good in the spring game and use them now...as long as we don't appear to be hitting on all cylinders let's try the V12 instead of the V8...we need all the help we can get...maybe those other guys can get open and fight for the ball! Shipley and Mafah can only pull our chestnuts out of the fire for so long! Our defense can't save us forever or can they?

NIL and Transfer Portal make Redshirting obsolete

in the age of NIL and Transfer portal and the immediate gratification in our society....I think it's time to drop the concept of redshirting.
Any good/great player is 3 years and done. They are looking to get the money as fast as they can. Wish it were not the case...but it is.
So let's drop the redshirt concept. Its an anachronism.

As we have found... Even adding a 6th year to a good player's career doesn't mean he'll be better than the freshman that is great.

1. Parker is either the best DE or he's number 2
2. Brown and Williams are the best WRs
3. Woods is very close to as good as the 2 6th year DTs
4. There are half a dozen 4th year guys on the OL, but Sewell finds playing time

Redshirt is now obsolete at most positions.

I agree with your sentiment i've always wished dabo would have played some freshman over the years including cade and deshaun sooner. i will give him some credit he played etienne early( as he should) and even a few OL true freshman.

but it seems he is more comfortable playing defensive freshman than offensive, but again i agree, the putting freshman on the shelf for a year thing is gone.

Alabama had 5 star WR named worthy he was upset with his playing time as a true freshman, Saban told him to bide his time but he left went to texas, has become there leading receiver and beat the school he transferred from having a big game against them.

Stop playing daddy ball and get back to putting the best players on the field at all times.
