Ngata breakdown per 247

Jul 31, 2018, 4:46 PM

Recruiting: Clemson made a big move for Ngata following an unofficial visit there back in March. He was thought to be a solid Washington lean at the time, mainly because his older brother Ariel signed with the Huskies two years ago. After his visit back in March, Ngata said Clemson was his new leader. He was back on campus over the weekend and pulled the trigger on Saturday. Notre Dame is the only other school Ngata visited this year Ngata was a national recruit with offers from all over the country but really focused on the Tigers and Huskies. It's a huge pickup for Clemson as the receiver is the No. 64 player in the country in the 247Sports Composite.

What to Like: Ngata is a dominant player on both sides of the ball but will play receiver for the Tigers. He has every physical tool you could want in a next level pass catcher. He’s all of 6-3 and is a physical receiver with strong hands and can bully opposing corners. He runs well enough to stretch the field and is very good after the catch as well. He’s dominant in jump ball and red zone situations and shows the timing and body control to be a major threat near the goal line. He does a nice job catching the ball through contact and wins the majority of 50-50 balls because of his size and strength. He’s a load for smaller corners and safeties to bring down in the open field and once he gets a step, he’s gone. He’s very tough to press at the line of scrimmage or knock off his route and plays with a nice competitive edge to him as well. Ngata plays in a pass happy, wide open offense and will come in to college with the knowledge and ability to run every route in the book and he has a very good feel for passing concepts and how to get open. He’s also an excellent blocker and takes pride in that part of his game as well.

Areas to improve: There really aren’t many weaknesses or areas to improve in Ngata’s game. Physically, he’s a gifted athlete with a great skill set. Some will say the competition Folsom plays against isn’t elite and it’s the system that allows players to put up huge numbers. That’s debatable but in a state championship game last year against a very good Helix squad, Ngata was unstoppable and won his head to head battle with USC signee Isaac Taylor-Stuart, one of the nation’s top rated corners in the 2018 class. Folsom athletes rarely attend any off-season camps or combines so we didn’t get see Ngata in person this spring/summer. It’s almost an out of sight, out of mind thing as other players moved up in the rankings simply because we were able to see more of them and evaluate them in person. Had Ngata worked out and attended the Nike Camps and The Opening Finals, we’re confident he would be in the discussion when talking about the top receivers in the country.

Overall Analysis: Ngata was a big pickup for the Tigers for multiple reasons. He’s a high level talent who’s good enough to play for any school in the country. Clemson doesn’t recruit out West too often but were still able to pull Ngata away from several top programs in the region including Washington, not an easy task. Ngata has a college body right now and we could see him competing for playing time right away next fall. He’s a very hard worker off the field and a high character student-athlete who you won’t need to worry about getting involved in any off the field non-sense.

Which is a key point to what I understood from that as well. It clearly states that players are ranked lower than their talent on the field speaks for if they don't attend games, shortly followed they stated that he won his battles against 5* 2018 CB Issac Taylor-Stuart in the state championship game which is impressive seeing as he was a year younger.

Those Huskie fans already thought..........

Thanks for the share. Sounds like that MW type receiver that can

Win the jump balls. If he continues that through college he may be top 10 draft. Obviously a long way to go but I’m excited to watch him light up some secondaries.

I did some research and they are up in the New England states somewhere. They are more of a basketball school. Women's basketball.

That’s right. My apologies Frank. Wow, and I’ll admit I was a little concerned about this class!!! And you got to think Dawson will commit for oline since his dad had tears of joy at the AIC.

He is a stud as a corner or defensive back, not as a QB. He'll be switching positions before he leaves USuCk
