What does it take for Brownell to get another year?
Mar 3, 2015, 1:23 PM

I like Brownell and I hope he survives even if we lose out. This team is close to making the dance and had KJ stayed for his senior season I think we're top five in the ACC. We also have a season with no real home games next year, not good for a new coach.

Brownell is ABSOLUTELY going to be back next year.....

and most likely the year after as well. The University is not going to fire the head coach before or after a season spent playing all home games at a temporary arena located 40 miles from campus.

Yep only way he is not back after next year is if it is a MASSIVE bomb of a season.
With what we have coming back I dont see that happening. IMO we have a decent chance of making the tournament if we can get something at the PG position.

It was a great venue in its day....

but by the time the decision was made ot build what would become the Bi-Lo Center, the Old Auditorium had fallen into a serious state of disrepair and it was long past time for it to be demolished.

looks like it was torn down in 1997. If I ever attended anything there I was too young to remember.
1997 would have made me 12 at the time.

When Furman built an on campus arena, that really hurt the need for the old place.

It was terribly antiquated....

seriously lacking the aninities of a more modern arena, and a massive renovation simply was not financially feasible.

Sweet! Remember Memorial Auditorium fondly...
I remember my dad having season tickets to Furman basketball games there as a kid. Watching George Singleton play for the Paladins...Also, saw Muggsy Bogues play there as well. Even as a kid he looked like a midget!

Exactly! He's going nowhere - nor should he. He's a good coach, he's done a respectable job, actually a great job considering what he's had to work with. Probably the best X's & O's coach Clemson has in any sport.
Look back at our football program before we invested in facilities and the administration got back on board. Even with our football history - we were mired in mediocrity. If the administration fully commits to basketball, or even half what they do in football, Coach Brownell will be successful...

What is "great" about losing 11 games to mid majors? Good coaches don't lose that many games to lower level schools.
He will be here next year for sure. I would assume he may get 2 years as long as 2015-16 isn't awful mainly because his buyout. However, he has not done anything to better our program.

agree!! I did hope that we would be better by now but we just are not..he needs support by all Tigers and not constant gripping ... however, we need to improve on some things that look easy to correct like inbounding the ball, bad passes, players simply dropping good passes,

That would be a rough setback. We can't risk losing what Brad has built since the disappointing days of Oliver.
