Nestled deep in the Bible Belt...

Its kinda funny the two favorite pastimes of our Tigers is Whipping Deacons and Devouring Chicken
fits nicely with the saying a gathering of 2 or more baptist and a chicken is getting fried

Historically, Baptists have usually been at the lower end of the socio-economic-education scale. That's why many of our beliefs and practices are mocked as being the product or proof of our anti-intellectual status.

When many grew or raised their own food, chickens were easier for poor folks to keep than any other meat. Combine that with the price of chicken at the grocery store being much less than pork or beef well into the 1980's, and you get what one of my religion professors said in 1983:
"Physically, many Baptist pastors are dead chicken ranches." Obviously, he was rail-thin.

I like it when the Blue Devils play the Demon Deacons. Seems like the Liberty Flames should get involved. Talk about spiritual warfare.

Wake Forest is a Baptist school. May not still be affiliated with SBC. Just like Furman, Anderson College and Chas Southern.

Duke is allegedly Methodist.

Liberty was Baptist, but independent. Now their host church, Thomas Road Baptist has joined the SBC.

The mascots are not coincidental.

Take a Baptist fishing and you need a case of beer....Take 2 and you can get by with a 6 pack. They will keep an eye on each other...
