National perspective on Dan Radakovich/Miami reports

Dec 6, 2021, 9:58 AM

Yahoo released a report late Sunday on Miami's job-hiring ventures, including with Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich for the same position there. Pete Thamel says that Radakovich interviewed with Miami in Atlanta over the weekend:

"The public and awkward coach slog will need to be resolved before anything happens with Radakovich. That’s the second domino.

"The timeline for things to unfold in Miami will be a choice in coach — either Cristobal comes or sticking with Diaz — and then some conversations with the coach and Radakovich before that deal is finalized.

"The reasoning for Radakovich likely going is simple. He’s been there when Miami has been elite, and his experience at Clemson makes him perfectly suited to help galvanize and build Miami back to relevance. Miami is never going to be what it was under Howard Schnellenberger and Jimmy Johnson, but Radakovich is uniquely suited to maximize what it can be in the new world of college football.

"Radakovich came away from the Saturday meeting impressed with Miami's leaders. There appear to be a few final formalities before he takes the job later this week. At 63, he’ll likely end where he began."

On the head coach front, Miami's current staff is reportedly off the recruiting trail as Miami openly seeks Oregon's Mario Cristobal:

Lol Miami is afraid to let DRad hire a football coach

Dec 6, 2021, 10:07 AM

GT won as many games (9) in Paul Johnson's first year as they have won in the last 3 with Geoff Collins. PJ also had winning seasons in 8 of 11.

i agree. PJ was a good hire for Tech at the time. Those early PJ teams were beastly and successful.

People have a short memory. Some of those teams were really competitive and were a thorn in our side.

His scheme set GT back a decade....***

i just dont get what DRad did at Clemson

Dec 6, 2021, 10:08 AM

that would make Miami think he can turn them around.

built a Softball team.
Basketball and baseball are .....at best.. the same as when he got here
football was already on the rise

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Let's not upset the apple cart and stop the DRad to Miami train. Then Clemson can get an AD that is more forceful in representing Clemson with the ACC and in general.

Radakovich is more of a fundraiser and PR guy...

Dec 6, 2021, 10:09 AM

He's quite adept at dealing with budgeting, marketing, growth goals, and implementing organizational and infrastructural improvements.

Hiring and firing coaches, and improving the athletic programs is definitely NOT his forte.

Rittman was a home run hire. Butler was a solid hire. Lee is a “fingers crossed sure hope he turns it around” hire.

I think inaction on Brownell has probably been the correct move so far, but it’s debatable for sure. Our basketball program is better than it’s historical standard but still frustratingly average.

Every leader brings different skills to the table. We're extremely lucky at Clemson to have had leaders like Radakovich, Venables, and Elliott. Only a fool believes that change inevitably brings a negative result. Mostly, change is positive. It allows for brain trusts to be renewed, ideas to be questioned, and injects new energy and enthusiasm into everyone at the table.

Radakovich brought an entrepreneurial acumen to Clemson that we hadn't previously had and, with it, helped to improve the physical plant for almost every sport. Plus, many additional building programs are already in the works and will be completed in the next several years. The softball program (and other new sports for women) was initiated and IPTAY grew. ADs normally stay about 10 years and that's what we got. Thanks, DR.

Elliott's offense helped in bringing home two national championships and he mentored many of the finest football talents of this age of CU football; Venables' defense became a national standard and pace-setter for innovation and intensity. Both will "graduate" to the next level and we'll hope for them that the Peter Principle will not be in effect.

Losing all three does not break what's not broken. It allows for new life, new breath, new innovation and something about which we can be excited and support.

Transitions can be challenging and, ultimately, rewarding.

Good, I never liked him, so this is excellent news. Dabo elevated the whole CUAD, not that prissy shill.

Miami is a cluster...At 63, a man should be looking toward gearing down... The mess that is Miami would make Einstein pull his hair out...
