Could really use all the prayers tonight for Northern California

The fires which started at Whiskeytown Lake have spread into Redding. My house may be- as I type this- a pile of embers. Not sure. But if you’re the praying kind, help us out. We need it.
Currently, I am safe and secure far from the scene. Tomorrow we will see what remains.

Oakland is a good 200 moles from this fire zone. Not saying your bro's home is safe from other fires--this is a bad fire season, and anything out in the hills is more at risk than in town--but the Whiskeytown Lake fire will not reach your brother's house.
If so, it will have burned a quarter of the state and travelled due South, which is not normal. Firewinds do change direction a lot, especially based on local topography, but they primarily travel from West to East.
Reaching Redding is already the worst-case scenario for this fire. Over 100,000 people live there.

is an excellent tool to reduce fuel that exacerbates wildfires.
It's a practice that works well in the South, but isn't or maybe can't be used out West.
Seriously, prayers sent.
I have read that home fires are the third most stressful things for families, only behind death and divorce.

Praying for you and your community.
My wife is a NorCal girl and is still networked with some friends on Fb. Apparently this fire is devastating in its speed and is impervious to all obstacles.
It jumped the Sacramento River, and yesterday hopped a freeway on camera before a news crew even realized it was there. A Redding TV station evacuated on air.
Local LEOs are having difficulty keeping evacuations ahead of the flames. Thankfully only one fatality so far, but he was a dozer operator who got trapped by hop-scotching flashpoints.
We Southerners might get a week's notice to evacuate from a big hurricane, but Californians get about 5 minutes to grab their essentials, people and pets packed in the car, because their LEO is waiting on them so he can move to the next block to do the same for them. At midnight.
Even those who suffered no loss have their lives turned upsidedown for as much as a week. But this fire will leave lots of people with serious loss.
Again, our prayers to you specifically, but also to the whole community, for there will be great need for God's grace and human love and compassion in the weeks to come.

As of Friday night, over 38,000 people evacuated, 500+ structures destroyed, now 2 firefighters killed due to the Whiskeytown Lake fire.
Most of the buildings destroyed were not from Redding but two smaller communities that were almost totally devastated. But the fire is burning homes on the outskirts of Redding, is only 5-6% contained, and is forecast to keep spreading this weekend due to 110-degree heat.
Please keep OP and his community in your prayers.

First, the OP is JeffersonStTiger, and he and his family are the ones in harms way and in need of prayer.
Second, multiple outlets report various "vehicle equipment malfunctions" as the cause. Implications that someone's trailer wasn't wired correctly (mountain roads, natl rec area) may be pure speculation. Sometimes my smart *ss thinks that, in the absence of evidence, they throw a dart at a dartboard so they can parade a cause in the interest of public awareness.
As the West dries out in coming years, it will take less and less to start it burning.

I wondered earlier today if we had anyone affected by this terrifying disaster. Prayers for you and your family. Getting families & pets to safety comes first, but also praying for minimal loss of homes and jobs out there.

For those who have not seen the latest:
Thankfully the fire crews have been able to prevent the fire from continuing its eastward burn into the city, and the latest numbers show it has only grown minimally in the last 24 hours.
However, the fire has actually spread in all three other directions while being stopped in the populated area, even without the aid of directional winds.
Fatalities from this fire are now 6, with several more missing and unaccounted for even after doing roll calls in the shelters. The fire is still only 5% contained, but growing much more slowly. Most evacuees are still not allowed home, and some looters are taking advantage of the situation.
Right now, 7-11 pm PST, is when the evening winds have shifted and caused the fire to rage out of control both Th-Fr evenings. Please pray for calm tonight, so the courageous 3500 firefighters can get this blaze under control.

she still has a lot of family, that lives in Redding. She has been talking to them about every night. They live on the East side of Redding, but hoping and praying it doesnt reah that far. Continuing to pray for everybody from the Redding area!
