My thoughts on Big 2 move

Clemson has been built on its loyal and passionate fans. Clemson fans travel VERY WELL in the Southeast from North Carolina schools to Florida schools. Look at ACC stadiums where Clemson plays on the road and where orange dominates the people in them.

But that being said, following the Tigers on the road if they joined the Big 2 would be very hard for hard working Clemson fans. FSU and Maryland would be the closest stadiums to go support the Tigers. How many times would the bulk of our fans visit Minnesota or Iowa on a regular basis? Much less Oregon or Michigan.

Look, I have said for a LONG TIME we need to get out the ACC. It is a sinking ship. But the best choice is to actively court the SEC to join it. Trips would be 5x easier because of the distance. Many of our fans would drive to many of these games. And the passion for these games would be intense because of their geography near us.

If Clemson joins the Big 2 I will still be one of the Tigers biggest fans but know we will have lost something because of the lost opportunity for our fans to make all the long trips on a regular basis. I know money talks. But so does loyalty. Get the heck out of the ACC but don't kill the impact of our fans. Do what you can to stay in a viable conference in the South AKA join the SEC! Just my 2 cents worth. Go Tigers!!!!!

I agree. The Big would be a terrible move for our fans.

Agreed. However, all of these decisions are driven by $$$$$$$$. The fans, unfortunately, are not much of a factor in this.

Travel to Indiana, OhioSt, and PennSt feels like road trips similar to going to Louisville. Rutgers equals Syracuse or BC. Likely it’s 5 road games where one is USCjr or another SEC team alternating. One trip out West with a frequency depending on how many PAC teams join. One trip into the deeper north such as Minn, Mich, or Wisconsin. Then closer trips to Maryland, FSU, or PennSt. Having to travel to Nebraska would be fun one time. However, let’s be honest, in a 20 team conference it will take time to rotate back to a sucky road game.

Imagine being a fan of UCLA or the real USC

Their nearest conference opponent other than each other is 1,500 miles away

LA to Rutgers and back is a 5,500+ mile road trip***

Expect there to be a West and East Division

West: USC, UCLA, Washington, Oregon, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Illinois
East: Penn St, Maryland, Michigan St, Ohio St, Rutgers, Indiana, Purdue, (hypothetically Clemson & FSU)

Or remove Clemson & FSU and shift one school from West to East.

In this scenario, longest trip is Ann Arbor to LA (approx. 2200 miles).

based on your Tnet posts through the years. And agree with your premise that Clemson needs the revenue either the B1G or SEC can provide. Can't say where all this will end up. That said, I posted a year ago there is no Clemson Tiger SEC bid without a B1G offer. Essentially, the SEC offer will only come if it's a block to keep the B1G out of Clemson and Tallahassee. No take on if the SEC has any skin in the game on MIA, but IMHO both conferences would want UNC if the numbers work out ...

I agree. I think that is why the SEC took Texas and Oklahoma. I would bet the SEC caught wind the big10 was making a move on them and wanted to protect their territory.

Why do you keep saying Big 2 for the Big10?***

Well, why not? There's 14, soon to be 16 in the Big 10...***
