My first game at the Georgia Dome...

Jul 19, 2012, 4:19 PM

is gonna be Sept. 1st against Auburn...as far as parking goes, how does that work? I was thinking of just parking around one of the various spots near the CNN building and walking down...is that a good idea? or is there a better one?? thanks

LOL I sure hope so...

There are big parking garages

Jul 19, 2012, 4:35 PM

around Ga Dome but those are a nightmare getting out after the game. I've only been for the Peach Bowl which is New Years Eve so that might have made it worse. Second time around I stayed in Buckhead and took Marta but this wasn't much better. Atlanta just sucks in my opinion, I hope Charlotte starts an annual big game at the beginning of season b/c it's a much better city to visit and get in and out of.

for real...I had no problems at the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte...

There are varying opinions on this....

Jul 19, 2012, 4:55 PM

but if you don't have a parking pass, alot of people would suggest that you park at one of the outlying stations (Chamblee, Lexon, or Doraville) and take Marta to the Dome. The biggest downside is that you generally have to wait in some pretty long lines for an outbound train after the game.

how would i go ab getting a parking pass?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Unless you can pick one up on StubHub or Craigs List ....

Jul 19, 2012, 5:44 PM

my guess is all of the parking passes issued by the event have already been allocated. There are other private parking options around the Dome but some of those are in some "not too nice" areas. If you're planning on spending the night, I would suggest one of the hotels within walking distance of the Dome (The Omni, Hilton Garden Inn, Embassy Suites, etc.) and just leave your car at the hotel.

Thanks. I just relived one of the worst times of my life...

Jul 19, 2012, 5:11 PM [ in reply to There are varying opinions on this.... ]

after the Bama game I was in the "sobering up but feeling like death" stage and when we finally crammed ourselves into the Marta I could barely breathe and all I could smell was hot, humid body odor and somehow I didn't puke on the train. Rest assured, I let it loose when I got off. Good times.

marta is very easy. catch one of the stations at the end of the easternmost line. plenty of cheap parking and still a fairly quick train ride that literally lets you off at the stadium.

RI think the Varsity has parking.....20bucks?

Jul 19, 2012, 6:48 PM

Dont go early unless you have a tailgate to go to.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you're staying for the night I would suggest...........

Jul 19, 2012, 7:06 PM

MARTA to the game and taxi back to hotel. MARTA is a cluster#### after a game!

DO NOT SEEK THE

Jul 19, 2012, 7:17 PM

MARTA. It will take you longer to get back to your car than the game itself. Find a ground parking lot with in walking distance. That is the treasure. Sorry don't have specific suggestions on lots.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

From a local

Jul 19, 2012, 7:46 PM

I always take MARTA from Northside Hospital right off 285. The parking lot is always empty and it's the second stop down from the top of the line (seating still available).

Philips Arena I park for Hawks games and it's $10 under the belly. Easy walking distance to the Dome.

This event should have me over atleast 200 events. I even saw the Olympic gymnastics not knowing anything about it.
