My favorite tnet question....
Apr 28, 2014, 2:39 PM
|
|
"Well who you going to get?"
That's not my job, however if the athletic department would like to pay me to do that work for them I'd be willing to do some investigating. Because the fans don't have a short list is not an excuse to do nothing.

It's a perfectly legitimate question to ask
Apr 28, 2014, 2:47 PM

The question regarding firing any coach should be A) Are we performing up to our standards? B) If not, will firing and replacing him make us better over the next 4-8 years?
Everyone agrees on A, but it's not crazy for someone to ask you to answer B as well.
No, you don't need to be certain like a paid AD does, but if you can't name a single viable candidate then you're just complaining.

To play devils's advocate, that response is always to a question about firing a coach. Deciding whether to fire a coach or not is equally no one on T-Nets job. So, if you are going to make assertions that ultimately are the responsibility of an AD why would it be unreasonable to ask what steps would be taken next?

I think it's a rhetorical question. And I think the point...
Apr 28, 2014, 4:19 PM
|
|
of this particular rhetorical question is that there are less than a handfull of coaches who have done better over the last 7,8,9,10 years.
There isn't an ACC school that hasn't struggled/faced frustration/choked in the tourney over the last 5 years. FSU has been very good, but I think we have a winning record over them over the last 5 or so years. UVA and UNC are the two ACC schools that people on here always hold up as the golden standard. UNC may be having a worse season than we are, and UVA hasn't sniffed Jack's post season success yet.
I think another part of the equation is that if you fire Jack Leggett, you in essence temporary kill the program. He is one of the most respected people in college baseball, and has been for a long time. Nearly all the best coaches would be angered if he were fired or forced out.
Finally, the point of the question is to remind some people on here that if you are smart enough to know when a coach should be fired, then you should be smart enough to know who should be hired. If you don't, then chances are your opinion is not something that the AD should pay any attention to.
