The regular season is another example of that. Im sorry, but history has lowered my expectations for this year's tournament too.

Sadly he hasn’t met even my lowered expectations. I expected to not do well in ACC tournament and we get blown out in historically dismal fashion. Here’s hoping this is the year we get a win in march.

With a few exceptions, we’re just not a historically good basketball school. Brad unfortunately fits the mold of mediocre expectations. If we want to continue getting excited about making a tournament of 68 teams out of around 350 total D1 schools, keep him. Otherwise…

Expectations are often not met because the people that set them often do not know what they are talking about.

As Clint Eastwood famously said in some movie, a man's gotta know his limitations. Unfortunately, it seems that the CU basketball program as a whole, that is, coaches, fans and players, have bought into to this limited way of thinking as to what the program at Clemson could and should be. A few times (early 60s for a couple of years, mid 70s stymied by probation in a huge lasting way, a little in the 80s under Ellis with good big men but sketchy guards, Barnes for a couple of years who then flew for greener pastures, Purnell, just a little but during a time of a very strong ACC, Brownell (well there really has not been a time when we felt he was going to kick the door down). Somebody has to kick that door down. That is what it will take unless we can some day lure lightning in a bottle with a coach and 1 to 2 great players recruited per year for about 4 years. Look at what Pearle has done at football factory Auburn. I do not mean good, I mean game changing players. Unless either or both happen it is going to take some sort of unexpected run to get the attention of the type of players and/or coaches we need. Obviously what we have done the last 60+ years just has not worked. What's that definition of insanity? We really need a total reset of the program. I think BB is a good man with some coaching skills but he is not a great coach or great recruiter apparently. He seems to lack fire and seems to himself have bought into the narrative of limited expectations for Clemson. He needs to get some technicals. I hope this is the year he kicks the door in with a deep run and would be glad to see him succeed because he is good man and has been a good representative of the university in some ways. History tells me otherwise. We will find out in week or so.

We were picked 5th preseason and finished 5th. Sure we lost a few we should have won and won a few we could have lost. We beat UNC at their place and also beat the coots. Just wondering what were your expectations going into the season?

Basketball is not like football where top teams bully the teams at the bottom. My guess is you simply want change for the sake of change not realizing the pendulum is more likely to swing down than up.

You must be a mind reader as I said zero about keeping CTB or Lee. If you were honest about the situation, you would realize the potential for baseball and football at Clemson is quite different than for basketball so each program must be viewed in context.

We finished 6th in the league, not 5th. The ACC Tournament seeding is exactly the one by one finishing position. Pre-season predictions don't list ties - they go by order of finish. It's not a huge discrepancy to finish 6th instead of the predicted 5th, but it is worse.

Do you honestly think that 2 games over .500 in the ACC was the expectation of prognosticators, when we were 8 games over .500 the year prior and had a better roster coming in?

This isn't all that accurate, actually. Brad routinely exceeds expectations

when they aren't really there to begin with. It's when expectations are actually high that we consistently underdeliver. Normal seasons Clemson is an afterthought and picked in the bottom third or lower middle of the league, and under Brad we more often than not finish higher in the standings than predicted - the overachievement argument. In those rare instances where we are considered a contender with potential for post-season success - that's when we kind of underperform. His 2nd season after taking Purnell's kids to the NCAA, KJ's junior season, the year after the Sweet 16 run, this season - we entered all of those with promising expectations yet performed worse than expected.

At least we're in the dance this year and all possibilities remain in front of us, so still time to upset that painful trend.

Go Tigers!

Absolutely correct. About 280 teams are envying where we are. And we are there with some mediocre talent. But with a great coach we'd be 29-3 and a 1 seed. All you have to do is want it bad enough and believe.

I don't understand your troll attempt here. Our roster is excellent, as we all knew heading into the season, witnessed on the floor early in the season, and seen in shoots and spurts since ACC play kicked in. You got a weird schtick going on here.

"Our roster is excellent."

If we gave Duke or UNC a plane load of cash for their 5 starters, how many would sit on our bench because our guys are better? PJ probably edges out Mitchell for Duke and Ingram for UNC. Shef and Girard would get 8-10 mins maybe. Chase maybe 5 mins.

I don't see how we win the ACCT and have 27-28 wins with such disparity. We have to get some great players. I don't know what coach can do that for us. We've never signed a 5 star recruit. Here is Duke's 2024 class which happens to be #1 in country.

Patrick Ngongba II - 5 star
Cooper Flagg - 5 star
Kon Knueppel - 5 star
Isaiah Evans - 5 star
Darren Harris - 4 star

Brownell should get a medal for the 1 point loss at Duke and the win in Chapel Hill with our rag tag bunch. But we'll cut him loose for some other guy y'all will loathe in 2-3 yrs.
