Money and Success

Jul 14, 2022, 8:38 AM

At the risk of being laughed off this board, I don't see why so many want to rush to jump to a new "better" conference. If playoffs stay similar to the way they are in Football, all we have to do is win and we are in. Now money would make a difference but look at what we have done with less over the years. And why would we want to play a more grueling schedule if we don't have to. (I am not sure it would be much different anyway as all the leagues are top heavy). Culture-wise Clemson does not match up with the Big Ten except in academics, but academic standards are not a fit for the lower standard SEC. Any Thoughts?

But what do I know, I have not posted much on here before either! Have fun ripping this post to shreds.

The best way for me is to plan for enough money to succeed, but not to plan so as to make the most money.

Love of money is the root of all evil, to me, means to look out for yourself primarily instead of looking to maximize your wallet.

If Clemson stays humble, they will be fine and I think Clemson is the model right now around the country for success, not just in football.

If SEC & B1G stage their own playoff with 80-90% of the top brands, it will be considered the real championship. The one that will be staged by ACC/Pac(?) & BigXII will be like mid majors.

Until the CFP expires in 2026(?) Clemson can compete in the ACC, but perhaps not after

That would never happen. They'd be leaving

behind much of the TV market which would be idiotic financially speaking.

Looking like we are stuck barring a seismic shift anyway

so why not take the lemons we are dealt and try to make lemonade? If the “experts” here and in the press know anything, the ACC is a dead conference walking, anyway. Remember the definition of insanity. Doing nothing will accomplish nothing. Brings a quote to mind: “Better to have tried and failed than to have not tried at all.”

My Question is if Vandy were to leave the SEC, what is the beacon of Academics in that Conference?

UF, Texas, and UGA would be the only ones that typically

rank higher than Clemson/have higher admission standards. The gaps on those seem to have been closing for the past decade or so.

Good question. The biggest factor is the money gap is going to get bigger. Another factor that's not mentioned much is recruiting. Kids want to play on a big stage in big games. Clemson has been fine with big games in the past but think of the last few years it has been terrible. If recruits percieve the ACC way below the Big and SEC then you want be able to land top recruits.
