Mental Toughness is gone from the Offensive Line

Mental toughness from the the leaders on the team is formed in the off season workouts, in the weight room and player-organized summer practices. Something changed 3 years ago in this area and it is becoming more and more obvious every day. Did the weight training program change? Did the running and workout programs change? Did they all give up meat and become Vegans? What happened? Our offensive linemen look weak, poorly coached and walk around between plays like zombies in some sort of trance. Then at the snap, they stand upright and chicken fight rather than driving their man out of the hole. It looks like a kangaroo boxing match, they are so upright and heads thrown backwards. Short yardage blocking, you can just forget that. Watch the videos. Play after play, all 5 of our offensive linemen are standing on their feet, watching the RB or QB on the ground as he is pummeled. They look more like dancers than blockers and it is obvious they are not coached in the fine art of blowing a defender out of a hole.

As an old QB, I have played on teams with poor offensive lines and on teams with great offensive lines. Good Offensive line play makes everything work. The entire game changes when the OL does its job. It gives the entire team confidence. With poor offensive line play, nothing works. You cannot run the ball for one yard, your QB is running for his life so the passing game is hit or miss, clock management is impossible. Then it seeps into player attitudes and the fumbles, interceptions and dumb plays happen. IMHO, it all begins and ends with the offensive line and right now Clemson has one of the worst I have ever seen in the Dabo era.........and it is not even close.

Our strength and conditioning program has fallen of a cliff. Is it team leadership or have we become a weak team because of coaching. We need to be strong to deter injuries and move other people off the line. If he coaches can't see this,we are in serious trouble. As always Go Tigers!

I can see the difference in the Off:line from Caldwell to Austin...Austin
was a good Off:lineman but not a good teacher.Just my opinion as a fan
who has watched an listened too Clemson since my Mother bought me a
Minnow way back in time and I named the Minnow Moby ####.
