so they could have a bowl game after getting left out for multiple years. I think they played 3 straight bowl games in their own stadium.

Miami used to do it all the time when they went to the Orange Bowl.

South Alabama played in their homes stadium and was the away team for their bowl. Seems like there's been a few teams this bowl season if not played in their home stadium or city or played very close to home.
