Mandatory office days

are stupid. 4 of us here today. They moved our team to another floor last week so I am now in my 4th cubicle in less than a year. I have no personal belongings on my desk because I don't want to be here. I do keep a coffee mug at my desk, since they don't provide cups. After the move, I am on my 6th mug. That's right, I have had 5 other mugs thrown away in less than a year. Really makes you feel welcomed and wanted.

is skipping them this week. We also don't have offices or cubicles of our own anymore, we have to check them out ahead of time and bring in all your stuff every time. You can store some in locked drawers if you want, like a mouse and keyboard. It's not fun. I try and sell it to new hires, but I know inside I prefer working from home SO MUCH MORE than being there in person.

My office days look like this for the most part

Leave home around 8 to avoid the worst traffic.
Arrive at the office around 9.
Go to the office gym at 11.
Lunch at noon.
Back at my desk around 1.
Leave between 3:30 and 4.

back to SC in 2018, I sold my company on the idea of me working remotely. This was well before COVID and I was the only one - aside from the President and VP - who had ever worked remotely.
I love it. I usually get up and start working around 5:30am and don't have any interruptions until they get to the office in Houston at 8am central time.
I worked this morning from 5:30-7:30 before dropping TXTFJR off at school. Then I went to Flying Fox Coffee and worked there for a few hours.

I can track someone down and talk to them in person. You can't ignore me when I'm standing at your door. It's also been noticed that those who work in the office get more done.

And was there at my desk for a total of about 3 hours. I was at Flipside Cafe eating lunch and meeting with vendors for almost 3 hours, sat down after that meeting and answered messages, then off to Napa at Kingsley for drinks, dinner, and meetings with the vendors and a few of our exec VPs. Got home around 9:30 last night. That'll be my only office day this week.

We just got bought by super mega corp, and they don't have many offices either. They have a corp office in the middle of nowhere Iowa or somewhere, so basically we'd go out of business if they try to force us all to move there to go in an office.
That said, I don't miss going in an office. But I'm REALLY tired of all the cutesy jokes and nonsense at the beginning of Teams calls. I started joining late to every one to just not have to listen to all that BS.

all the fake chatting - what a waste of time. We have teams calls even when everyone is in the same city and even when we're all even in the same office! ###
that said, works well for truly distant people, e.g., I had a call with some German clients this AM and that went well, especially since the Germans are all business.
