Can somebody please explain to me how a school like Louisville, who is

Nov 29, 2012, 3:25 AM

Only a recent addition to the Big East, is from a relatively poor state, is supposedly ranked academically amongst the likes of the lowers SEC schools, has a "Johnny come lately" football program with a stadium that holds 30 K less than Death Valley can be the 2nd most valuable Athletic Program just behind UNC?!?!

If Football accounts for roughly 80% of revenue, and being a part of a major BCS conference is so important, what is Louisville doing that we aren't?

I mean, Louisville clearly isn't an iconic program like Notre Dame so can someone please explain to me the numbers?

Honest question!

country, and the 43rd most valuable football program. Louisville also puts more money into their athletic department than any school in the ACC. They have a state-of-the-art basketball arena that is better than some NBA venues. They really love their basketball, and they get a ton of revenue from luxury seats.

Everything they have up there is named after some business. Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, the UPS Flight Deck, the KFC YUM! Center so on and so forth.

Also their basketball arena is big enough to host NCAA regionals, volleyball tournaments, etc.

They do a better job than probably anybody bringing in money for their AD.

Yeah, but they do make more money than us which is pretty amazing. Louisville is a lot like Winston-Salem. I don't think it's really a college town, although it's not huge and there is a bigger city (Cinci/Charlotte) nearby.
