I think that allowing one member to bring a proverbial vote-of-confidence to the floor is really dopey. Every time he does something that upsets one person, they'll have a debate? That's bonkers.

BUT one area where Jenna Ellis seems to completely miss the boat (and I'll quote directly from her tweets):

"It’s a privilege motion (supersedes all other business except adjournment) that takes only one movant. If invoked, McCarthy would need a majority of 218 to STAY as Speaker.

"This effectively neuters McCarthy. The original 20 have a pact that if McCarthy does anything outside his promises, they will vote to not retain and he’s gone."

It doesn't neuter him in the slightest. One of the 20 idiots will take offense at something and call a no-confidence vote. And the vote will be 202-20 and it will be back to business. Or, if the whole Freedom Caucus wants him out, it will be 177-45. Same result. (Because Democrats are going to sit this out.)

And then McCarthy (if he really wants to stay Speaker) will have to give up something to Democrats.

If McCarthy does something so egregious that 150 Republicans members want him removed, it will happen anyway.

This reminds me of when I was a Town Councilman. We'd have votes and invariably someone would vote yes with the caveat, "but I hope you consider..." And I always said they sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher, and that the person who wanted the "yes" only heard, "yes, wah-wah-wah wah-wah-wah-wah-wah."

“Same result. (Because Democrats are going to sit this out.)” sure they are.

Touche! I think the Democrats would take a "the devil you know" approach to the, admittedly hypothetical, intra-GOP squabbling. I mean, let's say the Freedom Caucus says "McCarthy is not standing up for us, like he promised." And you know that someone to the right of him (or even one of them) is who the most conservative Republicans want in the job. The rest of the Republicans (mid-term) are really going to want to avoid another one of these extended debates. I can absolutely see the Democrats sitting on their hands. It isn't like they would be in a position to vote for McCarthy, they would just be voting to not remove him. Obviously, I could be wrong. But I thought that Jenna Ellis's tweets made it sound far more precarious (on a day-to-day basis) than it actually is.
