Thursday, people were late, but not to the worrying level. The fire cooperated and all the food was done in a timely manner, and nothing got broken. I'd call that a good Thanksgiving.

Friday, my step-sister- (no pigs) came up with her kids and helped get the the tree going and we took them to the Children's museum.

Saturday, company arrived just in time to see Auburn's heart ripped out. Clemson game wasn't pretty but fun to see a defense just beat anohter team up. Got a lil drunk late into the night.

Sunday, had stuff I needed to do but had a decompression day instead.

the stated dinner time of 2 pm. I hit it on the nose.

What a meal! BTW, everyone said they like the Mac and cheese recipe someone posted, to me, it was just ok. Maybe I just don't like Mac and cheese. LOL.

Turn around on Friday with BBQ, brisket and sweet potato crunch from Bobby's and another set of guests. Let's just say no one left our house without food.

The pound cake recipe was awesome and I highly recommend the cold start.

I loved the game, our defense was fun to watch. The improvement in pass coverage is unbelievable from last year. I just hope they figure out how to get a decent offense next year and we can make the ACC CG.

Only downside is I broke a tooth and headed to dentist today. Just goes to show you, it is always something.

Thanksgiving was great food but dealing with a lot of family stuff. It's probably my mom's last Thanksgiving with us.

Friday was good to be back with friends at the garage bar.

Saturday was a great day of friends and football, and of course culminated with Chicken Kickin'.

Sunday I felt like ####; not really sure what it was but couldn't get out of funk.

And the whole weekend also overshadowed by the loss of our dog, which you already knew about.

got the papsilab. She's feeling better as of Saturday. Cleaned out her gray water line as it had clogged. Snaked the hose way up and found chunks of grease came out. She dumps bacon grease down the sink every morning. Friday was decorating day with a little werk sprinkled in here and there. We brought down boxes, wife decorated the house inside, I got the tree and brought it up from the dungeon under the house. Saturday we decorated the tree and finished the Christmas decorating. Cooked some awesome coot-killing wings, watched football. Good guys won. Sunday was hangover and greasy breakfast food stuff. Grocery run Sunday and also replaced a bathroom vent fan, which is FUN!!!!

Bout it.

Friday got some good work done in the yard and did thanksgiving with former(?) in laws eating at Carters steak house

Saturday did some follow up on some buildings that weren’t shutdown properly on Wednesday, had lunch at the CC of Spartanburg with old friends (literally old friends, one is 102) then had a new friend over to watch the chicken kickin

Sunday fairly sloven with the usual lunch with mom

All and all a good weekend and with this morning’s weigh in, only gained o.5 pounds

Thursday - a perfect Thanksgiving weather wise . Started with our local 5K walk. Did my cooking. Tossed the ball with lil’APM. Meaningless football. Bed.

Friday - took my time getting up. A tiny bit of shopping. Got a run in. Turkey Reubens for dinner.

Satdee - lilAPM headed back to Elon. Did a little Christmas decorating inside. Watched the game. Went to bed late but happy.

Sunday - got up at 0530 to take lilAPMette to the airport. Came home and slept again until 0940. Church. Napping. Reading. Bills/Eagles. 60 Minutes - Sealand was featured! Early to bed. Awakened at 0330 by an unexpected squall. Up and at em at 0543.

Sad to see the older kids going back to college but otherwise couldn’t have dialed up a more perfect weekend.

Thursday...had some of wife's family and my mother come in Wednesday night. For the 1st time ever, we went out for Thanksgiving dinner...we went for the Thanksgiving buffet at Sullivans and it was pretty good. $36/person, which is not much more than cooking it yourself. I'm normally the cook, so it was nice not having to do that. One draw back was no leftovers.

Friday...had open-gym shoot-around for BB team in the morning. Got the kids moving a bit and actually got my PG to the point where she can actually hit outside shots. Cooked red beans and rice for dinner...quite possibly my best batch ever. Publix carries a new small-batch brand of andouille that really good.

Saturday...got new tires for my company car. It's one of those where the rear tires are wider than the fronts, so no rotation. OEM tires are very soft performance tires. Had new ones put on in March and after 18k miles, they were like racing slicks. Put on some Michelin's with a 50k mile warranty this go around, so hopefully they hold up a little better. Watched a lot of football and really enjoyed the Tiger win. I love watching defensive games and our D was totally dominant. Hate that Scar scored on that 4th down. Don't think they would have if Davis hadn't had been held. Can't believe it wasn't called as it was right on the play.

Sunday...took daughter-of out for a little shopping and lunch. BB practice at 4. Open up on the road at cross-town rival McCants tonight. Should be interesting. Have no idea what kind of team they have and let's just say we haven't reached our full potential yet!

Go Tigers!

And we all know what that was. Otherwise, I was pretty much off all week and did little more than fix things around the house, run some errands, got in a little Christmas shopping, and stayed out of the way while Mrs. went into her decorating zoomies. Thanksgiving was a small quiet affair with just me and the Mrs. in town so we really didn't do anything special there other than make rouladen, potato pancakes, and red cabbage and ate it at normal supper time. Easy cleanup and no leftovers to deal with. Lots of hikes with the pups, lots of relaxing.

19/19 Covids for the weekend and order restored to the universe.

Daughter of came home on Tuesday night. We had our last practice of the week at the school on Tuesday and brought brownies for everyone to eat. Wednesday was a lot of running around shopping.

Thursday - Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, loved having everyone home and spending time with our family.

Friday - did some shopping but nothing crazy. Cleaned in the house some and vegged a bit

Saturday - BUSY day, went shopping with daughter of to get her resupplied for going back to Clemson. Packed, was tired of Turkey so order a few pizzas and got home in time to see the Bammer game and then the Clemson match. Watched every minute, was nice to geta win but apparently we have major issues on O/

Sunday - wife took daughter of back stayed in watched dogs.

It was great seeing all of the kids, minus one, so it was a great weekend

I did not see it Satdee night.

If we had anything like a passing game, that game would have gone down in history with the 45-0s and 63-17s of the series.

Oh well. Still happy for the W. And that there were no ridiculous trick plays and we actually kept running it at the end when that is all we had to do. And that the stockbroker made three FGs.

Tues - mom had fridge delivered. 1970s construction doesn't play well with modern appliances, so had to go over and remove the door casing around the pocket door that goes from living room to kitchen. Dudes got new fridge in and took old fridge out, so mama was very happy with having a working fridge in her kitchen again.

Wed - not much at all

Thurs - Turkey day with brother and sis-in-law at her mother's house. Wife worked half a shift that morning $$$ and met us there. Very good meal. Home for a bit so I could make the sweet potato dish for the evening meal, then off to wife's family meal for the evening. Got there and got roped into helping in the kitchen. Dang near 20 people. Another good meal followed by a good visit and I got a tad overserved, but not too bad.

Fri - watch football, met some friends at the Willcox for a couple quick drinks, then dragged to 5:30 mass where they did a special blessing for in-laws and their 60th wedding anniversary. BIL that is married to psycho crazy bitch surprised in-laws by showing up from Charlotte. She actually let him leave the house. Anyway, went to eat at the local Red Bowl, place was a ghost town but they gave us one server for dang near 20 people. I don't get it but he did the best that he could. Back over to wife's sisters house where there was kind of a slide show presentation thingy that was put together for in-laws. I must say that my MIL was quite the babe back in the day, no pigs. Then played pictionary on the TV and goofed around. Did not get overserved, which was good.

Sat - watch football, met some people at Tailgate to pre-game for the evening games. Head to in-laws house for our game. Wife, little one, and myself are the only Tiger fans there amongst dang near 20 people. Our game was boring af but will always take a win against those MFers. Did not get overserved, which was good.

Sun - watch football, ran some errands. Had to get out of the house so went to Tailgate for music bingo. Did not win, and did not get overserved, which was good.

Overall, really good and long weekend and did not destroy the liver, which was good.

Left early Thursday for Bama to visit In-Laws. Met at extended family's house in Bham for great midday meal, about 20 of us there. Great food and company. We got FIL (whos is closing in on 90) talking and telling stories and we recorded it. Son-of later created youtube channel and uploaded the videos for everyone to see.

Went on to In-Laws house and visited rest of evening, mostly watching football and hanging out.

Friday got up and got to work on a deck repair project for them. FIL, who is supposed to not be driving anymore, had decided a couple weeks ago to drive his truck around the front yard for reasons that are unclear. He got the 'accelerator stuck' and somehow ended up with one wheel on bottom section of wooden ramp to the porch, which of course collapsed that end of the ramp. Luckily the VA put in an aluminum ramp a couple years ago and that one was unharmed, so there is still a good (and safe) way into house. After some work we decided the ramp was not repairable - basically needed to be completely removed and rebuilt. Lacking time and tools for this, we removed broken parts and placed a rail across ramp so it is blocked off and can't be used. Daylight was running out so we called it a day.

Sat am we finished up railing and as I was doing so I noticed that the sill attaching deck to house was no longer attached. This is a problem as there was no support underneath on house side for several feet of deck, which is about 8'-10' off the sloping ground. This deck is their only way into house (which is built on side of a hill facing lake). So, this is ######. There was no way to properly re-attach sill to house. I wasn't sure what to do as it was now almost lunchtime Saturday, we are planning to leave early Sunday, and this is a pretty major project. After some thought I decided best temporary fix was to place a 4x4 vertically under this unsupported corner of the deck close to house to provide vertical support. With a proper footing and bracing, this should make deck safe to use for now.

So, I run to lowes with my FIL and his walker, and buy gravel, a concrete deck post footing, and lumber and screws. We come back and Son-of has dug out proper hole to place footing. We pour a few inches of gravel tamp it with a sledge and place footing. Solid. Now I take a 2x6 and run it across deck joists from underneath, and then I add another layer of 2x6. This plate is going to be the header that where the vertical 4x4 will but into and create solid support. We get another 4x4 and a farm jack and raise deck slightly so we can place our new 4x4 into position. This works beautifully. We place and level 4x4, attach it at top securely and remove the jack, then I add in 2x4s to brace the legs to keep it from racking. Solid AF. Somehow we manage to complete this project in time to join rest of family (lifelong passionate Bama fans) in time to see 4th qtr of Iron Bowl.

Phew.

Bama wins and they are excited. We watch boring but great beatdown of coots, say our goodbyes, and head to hotel to shower and crash.

Sunday up early as planned, beat traffic through Atlanta and back home by 1. Watch a little NFL and tiger soccer, laze around house and call it a weekend.

Overall 10 out of 10. Wasn't all fun but it was rewarding.

Friday had an oyster roast and Lowcountry Boil.

Saturday the wife and kids went to Cola for the game and tailgated with her brothers (Coots). They got to enjoy their whining and crying after our W!

I stayed home, drank all day, and watched football all day! Happy as hell we got the W, but still a LONG way to go on offense and also a few coaches need to go!

Yesterday, relaxed, and ate some pulled pork and fixins for dinner. Nothing special.

Overall 10/10 because all is right in the world again. Tigers on top!

Made turkey on the Green Egg, brined for the second year in a row with Kent Rollins recipe. Incredible. He also has a nice tip in the recipe for a butter baste under the skin, and a pretty slick method for getting it there. Calm down, perverts.

INGREDIENTS

2 gallons water
1 ½ cup kosher salt
½ cup light brown sugar
2 lemons quartered
6 garlic cloves mashed
5 sprigs fresh rosemary
3 sprigs fresh sage
2 tablespoons black peppercorns
3 teaspoons allspice berries
1 tablespoon dried mustard seed
2 bay leaves
2 cartons chicken broth
12 - 16 lb. turkey thawed
1 stick butter softened
1 package Red RIver Ranch Smokey Dip substitution below
Avocado oil or olive oil
Red River Ranch Original Seasoning or seasoning of your suiting
1 apple halved

INSTRUCTIONS

In a large stockpot, add the 2 gallons of water. Let warm over medium heat. Stir in the salt, brown sugar, lemons, cloves, rosemary, sage, peppercorns, allspice, mustard seed, bay leaves and chicken broth.

Bring to a simmer stirring occasionally for about 5 minutes, or until the sugar and salt have dissolved.

Let the solution cool completely.

Be sure to remove all the insides from the turkey. Cut the excess neck skin off.

Add the turkey to the pot and add 1 to 2 sacks of ice, until the turkey is completely submerged. Place in the icebox or ice chest for 12 hours.

Preheat the smoker to 275 degrees F.

Remove turkey from the brine. With paper towels, pat the skin of the turkey dry.

In a small bowl, blend the butter and the Red River Ranch Smokey dip together. Or substitute: ½ tablespoon minced garlic, ½ tablespoon dried minced onion, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika and 1 teaspoon crushed rosemary.

With the backside of a spoon raise the skin of the turkey and spread the mixture under the skin and mash to spread out evenly.

Rub the turkey generously with the avocado or olive oil. Place the apple in the cavity.
Place the turkey on the smoker or hang. Add 4 chunks of alder wood and 4 chunks of mesquite wood, along with a few soaked of each to create more smoke.

Place the lid on and cook for about 4 ½ to 5 ½ hours or until the internal temperature is 160 degrees F (about 20 to 25 minutes per pound).

Check the heat about every hour and add more soaked wood chunks for smoke, as needed.

Let the turkey rest for about 20 to 30 minutes, don’t tent the turkey with foil, as the steam will cause the skin to not be as crispy.

Tip: The last 30 minutes crack the lid slightly to crisp up the skin.

NOTES
You can roughly estimate 1 1/2 lbs per serving

Started off traveling at 5:00 Thursday with a flight from Austin to SEA followed by a layover and a trip to LAX before getting on the long flight to Sydney.

Landed at 8:30AM Saturday and then made my way thru customs. Got out of the airport to find the trains were down for track maintenance, so I had to take a bus up to Central Station and transfer on to Bondi Junction.

After that, I made my way to Moore Park and Allianz Stadium for the Sydney Derby. It was a chippy match without many chances, and sadly Western Sydney took the game 1-0.

Sunday, I found a sports book and bet $5 Australian on Clemson to win. I sat and watched the game on my phone with VPN as we incredibly covered the 8.5 point spread.

Monday, I went out to the harbor and Central Business District and did touristy things.

Overall, been a fun weekend. Will report more later.
