I said back in 2013 after Spurrier beat us 5 in a row that I would take what Dabo is building at Clemson over what The Old Ball Sack has in Columbia. I felt we were on the verge of greatness. Today, I feel the same way about Norvell and FSU. I will take our situation over the temporary fix at FSU with all the transfers. I feel we are on the verge of greatness once again . Although I do agree with most that we need to fill critical positions with a few top notch players from the portal . Those guys must have character that we expect at Clemson.

So what you’re saying is “it’s LSU all over again?”🤔

I don't think FSU is close in talent to the 2019 LSU team. The are talented but not that talented. And unless FSU forks out another 10 million for 17 great portal guys for next year, they won't be near as good in 2024.

That’s my point. For several reasons I think the TP is a flash in the pan, like the “Covid pandemic” that helped create it. In the long term it’s unsustainable.

The TP hype is just that, and long term will be another media flash in the pan. It has (so far) made for a very interesting CFB season The upside for programs like Clemson is that there will be more quality HS recruits to choose from. Those players will lose out on scholarships & playing time to TP players and their development will suffer. They will choose us for that reason. The real gorilla in the room is NIL for which there apparently are no limits as we speak. CFB is now like NFL with free agency BUT no salary cap. With that there could be some parity.

That’s like saying free agency and trades in pro sports don’t have an impact
Add to the fact that the NCAA doesn’t even have a salary cap like pro football or a luxury tax like baseball!
And every player is on a year to year arrangement where pro sports has long term contracts
You got your head in the sand !

You got your head in the sand ! Point the first: No, precisely the opposite: TP does have a similar impact to free agency in the NFL (I restrict my comments to NFL because…football!). Hence my comment about this year in CFL being “more interesting” because more teams are in the conversation for playoff spots.
Point the second: True, the NCAA doesn’t have a cap on NIL. BUT IT NEEDS ONE! Which would help with PARITY in the long run (I guess you missed that part?). Otherwise the richest schools will just buy the championship year after year and you know Clemson is not in that category.
Point the third: There are, in fact, many 1 year contracts offered to free agents in the NFL. The more productive players do get longer term contracts true but 1 year contracts are not uncommon. And the NCAA is currently trying to figure out how to limit multiple transfers by a single player
Point the fourth: My head may be in the sand, it won’t have been the first time, but yours is up your ^zz. And I think you have some reading comprehension issues as well. Low score on the SAT verbal? Just guessing

Norvell didn't have a choice. Not sure if you ever read bretfsu here on T-Net but he's covered this ad nassuem. He's not a flash in the pan, quick fix coach you make him out to be.
FSU’s out recruited us now 2 years running. They have talent and they have talent coming in. He's also making changes in other places that fsu needed help in.

I disagree with you on traditional recruiting of highschool players. I think he’s done an average job there
What separates him is that he’s got a holistic view of recruiting and is good at evaluating portal talent (which is inherently easier because you see proven performance at the college level)
he’s also not afraid to build relationships with and to advertise openings to the nil agents.
He’s dedicated himself to figuring out how to win at the NIL because he was hungry and had his back against the wall.

Probably ought to look up current recruiting before talking....FSU has the #6 2024 recruiting class in the nation. Top 10 is average now? What's Clemson's class for next year? Oh that's right 16th.

I don’t think you can build something that’s based on a temporary relationship (Transfer Portal) and at the same time commit to a long term relationship (high school recruits) that depends on developing a raw talent. Maybe you can but when you tell a 4 or 5 star HS player “We need you to help us take our program to the next level” then you bring in a TP player who HASN’T PAID HIS DUES with you and your recruiting classmates, then as a coach you lose credibility.
