Until that gets cleared up, the Port of Baltimore will be essentially closed.
Ongoing search and rescue, up to 20 in the water with lots of cars - there was a construction crew working on the bridge at that time. Additionally, that’s the main HAZMAT route going up and down 95 because they aren’t allowed through the tunnels - just added 40 or so miles to their trip going the other way on the beltway.
Just listed to the fire chiefs press conference, there is a possibility of a fuel leak from the ship as well…they can smell it, but still too dark to fully check it out

The thought of something like that happening on a bridge in Charleston has crossed my mind a few times and it's terrifying, especially the Wando River bridge on I-526.
EDIT: The article I read today said the bridge was named after a "lawyer and an author". Yeah, I guess that's one way to describe him.

Yep. Tide was going out at that moment so the captain could literally do nothing. Once you lose power and the boat starts to swing, it would take a long, long time to get it lined back up after power was restored. Had the tide been coming in, he’d have had a couple options to avoid it.

Nope. I frequently drive a 24 year old 16 foot boat on Lake Keowee. It’s pretty much the same thing as that ship when you’re in the moment.

That could be anything from losing power to a crew member hitting the wrong switches to the boat trying to warn people on the bridge.
