Like Clemson, SCar has 11 scholarships available right now.

Feb 7, 2017, 9:33 AM

But Tony Morrell said he expects SCar to sign 20 or more players for 2018.

That is alot of attrition and parents and high schools should take notice.

Muschamp is making the same mistakes he made at UF. Except at SCar, this behaviour keeps you in the cellar.

Also regarding our freshman this year, 12 redshirts, 14 incoming that is 26. Shaq Smith, Nyles Pinckney, TJ Chase, Xavier Kelly, Simmons, Chalk, and Zerrick Cooper.

That right there friends is a top 3 recruiting class.

Well put I'll take our 3, 4, and 5 star rs that have been in

Feb 7, 2017, 9:54 AM

Our program for a year, have a year of school under their belt, know our system, have showed they're not trouble, are stronger, faster, and know our coaches, plays, and players. I'll take that over their extra 6 or 7 3 stars that won't show up until this summer.

They know as well as everyone in the country that at least half will not qualify and have to go to a JUCO. That's how it works out at USuC. They will continue to recruit low quality players in hopes that they can straighten up in the final semester of High School. GO Tigers.

Muschamp knows his window is smaller now that Clemson has won the NC. The pressure he's feeling must be huge. This will cause him to make mistakes.

What pressure?

Feb 7, 2017, 12:30 PM [ in reply to Re: Like Clemson, SCar has 11 scholarships available right now. ]

It's not as if the standards for winning should be that high at USCjr. He will look like a fool maybe, but what kind of record will he consistently need to keep hia job for a ling time, .500?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe he should give Coach Leggett a call...

Then maybe nobody will want to play them next year...

Continious attrition is not a good thing ...

Feb 7, 2017, 10:36 AM

Whether at work of for a college football team.

Onboarding new people is costly and time consuming. Peak performance cannot be obtained until people know the system, their roles and the details of their jobs.

For a football player going from HS to college, the transition is enormous. Having players in the "system" for 3 to 5 years is a significant advantage. Why ...
Off season workouts
Weight training
Physical development
Nutrition
Practice routine - effectiveness of practice time
Knowledge of playbook - complexity of schemes
Technique of position
Game experience
Academic factors such as studying and class attendance
Overall maturity
Etc.

Folks that think large signing classes are good year in, year out are not considering all aspects of the process.

Very well said. And the only reason Bama gets away with it

Feb 7, 2017, 10:56 AM

is because they are pulling in so many blue chips that attrition doesn't affect them.

11 Seniors, they'll take at least 20,even up to 25.It's what pi$$ed Florida high schools coaches off at Chump when he was there, also IT was Slurrier's down fall.

Feb 7, 2017, 1:12 PM [ in reply to And there are fans on FGF that interpret our small class ]

He goes JUCO, becomes fat and out of shape and loses out on a year of D1 training. He counts towards this year's class for the coots but with a long way to go before seeing the field.

We are in a much better situation.

The point is they are not contributing because they have not improved like they should have. Looking deeper, they are not getting the coaching they need to improve.

Re: Like Clemson, SCar has 11 scholarships available right now.

Feb 7, 2017, 1:18 PM

I really think the NCAA should do more to hold teams to signing only a certain number of players each year. I realize that every school will lose some unexpected players early due to early NFL declares, transfers, discipline, etc... so holding a program to only 85 in a 4 year period isn't realistic, but there should be a limit somewhere. At some point a coaching staff should be held responsible for the way they scout players. If you decide to offer a player and he turns out to not be a very good player or isn't a good fit for your program, then most of that blame lands at the feet of the coaches IMO. Any idiot could go out and just offer a bunch of players and hope to get commits from a bunch of them. It takes much more talent to evaluate the players and decide which ones will be the best fit for your team. Over the last 4 years, South Carolina has signed 103 players compared to 83 by Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dabo talking about not running players off...
