Let's talk about the SCState game.

TB seemed off his game.
Where was Sammy?
I thought HotRod was doing more stutter-stepping than running.
Concerned? Or just writing it off to a letdown?

be less intense in such a game although Clemson is suppose to be playing to a standard regardless of the opponent. Hopefully that will not happen again this season.

expecting to be out early. Hard to be intense with that knowledge. However, the lines looked dominant most of the game. The defense looked very strong.

quarter and was out. I am ok with that. I am a little disappointed from the offensive effort. We have to bring it every game. If we show up unmotivated in Raleigh we will get beat.
Bring it, every game.

we don't do that either...we don't show up at work focused in the same way everyday....we don't....we get more and less focused depending on the need/pressure. These are younger and younger kids in my eyes the older I get. We won...we build depth and move on.

Yes it was. We played 83 guys! I'm completely satisfied with the effort on Saturday. The defense looked good except on the two long TD plays but when you have so many young guys in the secondary a mistake or two is gonna happen.

Win + no major injuries + plenty of playing time for backups + backup QB looking solid + receiver with the drops last week is thrown to early and often (and catches the ball)= MAJOR success

I'm hoping this was Boyd's ##### game...

...but in truth this game was made for the backups.
It was one like just about all of these type games early in the year. The big difference was that the two pick 6 plays allowed us to get the starters out even earlier.
Certainly not a stellar stomping by the first team, but it didn't have to be.

should roll...you know you don't need your A game to win...you don't need your intensity at the highest level...just played the Ga game which everyone talked about for 8 months...not one person talked about SC State.

The coaches can preach about playing a nameless, faceless opponent every week but at the end of the day, these are 18-22 YO kids who still are going to realize we're playing SC State...
Were you as into a noon-thirty kick against an 0-1 MEAC team as you were for a primetime game against a top 5 "SEC" team? No. Neither were they--doesn't mean anything.

Alot of The Tiger Starters Looked Like They Were Playing to

Not Get Injured. TB I don't think had a single planned run play. RM was dancing not smashing the holes like he did w/UGA. I get it, it's natural to play a bit safe, survive the 1st half and then let the back-ups play hard. Hopefully we don't see this tentativeness any more.

Dabo doesn't like beating up weaker oppnents.

For one thing he is a man of character and integrity, so beating up on a much much much weaker opponent isn't what he does. We could've beaten them 70(+)-0 but we didn't. It shows sportsmanship and it keeps our guys down to earth. Shut outs are nice, but shutting out a much inferior team that isn't even in the FBS could've built a lot of false confidence in our team which could translate into the "pulling a Clemson".
Plus, we substituted every play. There wasn't one play in that game past the first few minutes of the 1st quarter where we had an entire string in. We played a lot of reserves to build experience. We also used maybe 5% of our playbook. If you watch the replay of the game, we used the most predictable, simple, and lackluster plays possible. We only threw short slant passes and maybe 2 screens the whole game. When we ran the ball, we either jogged our RB's at their DE's, or we had them stroll up the middle. I have no doubt Dabo and Chad held our guys back, they did not play at 110% percent against SC State. For one thing we don't need to, and we don't want to run the table with our offense and give teams like NC State a good highlgiht reel.
If we HAD played at 110% like we did against UGA, we would've shut them out by at least 70 points, and we would've given every other team we pay an absolutely beautiful replay video filled with all of those fancy, complex plays Chad likes to invent, and they would've been prestine examples of how we run those plays. Basically, we would've given NC State and FSU most of our offensive playbook with real time footage of exactly how we run those plays, making it just that easier for their defenses to learn our system and shut us down. Also, we walked away from the game with no major injuries.
We had a slow performance but we gained experience in our reserves, time to heal and recover from UGA, and we preserved the element of surprise for future big games.
While the SC State game was boring and a bit frustrating at times, I think our boys held back on purpose to pace themselves for the big games the rest of the season.
