This is rarely the scenario, even so, if you are passing

Feb 26, 2013, 9:57 AM

make sure it takes less than 5 minutes. If you're only going a couple of mph faster than the car in the middle lane, you don't need to be passing in the first place. Yield to the faster driver.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh definitely. Gotta be moving in the left. At the same time

Feb 26, 2013, 9:59 AM

though sometimes the dude in the right lane decides to speed up and mark time with you so you can't move over. That's a #### move also.

But it happens especially in hilly places like the last few miles of 85 in SC going into GA.

You aren't really accomplishing anything when you do that.

The person will either get over when they pass the person on the right or they'll think they are accomplishing something by going slow and pissing you off.

Feb 26, 2013, 10:00 AM [ in reply to You aren't really accomplishing anything when you do that. ]

They continue on the same slow ### pace as before, also continuing to block traffic and hold me up. They're also oblivious to anything around them 90% of the time. However, sometimes if you do get on them, they'll realize it and get flustered, leading to them getting over. Sure, they may give you a mean look, but they're the ####### in the first place. I don't care, there is no debate, yield to the faster driver. Period.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nobody said don't yield to the faster driver.

Feb 26, 2013, 10:09 AM

I'm saying getting up on them like you are their drafting partner is asking for a lot to go wrong. You don't need to be 3 car lengths behind them either. The best is when there are 3 cars in the left lane and car #3 thinks riding #2's ### is going to help #1 go faster.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

See, you're part of the problem too........when you come up

Feb 26, 2013, 10:13 AM

on these I-85 left lane trains......the slow car up at the front of the line is clearly the biggest tool, but then behind him you have 9 or 10 cars clearly content to just ride behind him for 10 or 20 miles until the lead driver gets an epiphany or takes his exit. Those people could go around the slow driver too, but they don't, and the chain just gets longer.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I wish I could give this more points...

Feb 26, 2013, 10:16 AM

Left lane drivers need to unite, and fight against this horrid highway tyranny. I propose different classes of license, you pass a rigorous driving test and you become eligible to drive in the 80 mph+ lane(left lane). Otherwise, MOVE OVER.

And oh yeah, when I do see you back there and get the chance to move over, get the #### on past me. Worse than being tailgated is doing the right thing and moving over for somebody, then having to brake because Mr. Right lane is going slow and Mr. Left lane is decides not to pass fast enough.

When 26 and 526 are bad here, they are just bad. You may be able to maneuver a bit, but not much. 61 and Glenn McConnell aren't your traditional 4 lane roads. One those, I want people get pick the lane they need and stay there. The fast drivers in the Left land don't mix with the people making left turns across the highway, gets messy.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The problem arise at Pelham with traffic merging and

Feb 26, 2013, 10:43 AM

Woodruff with people getting off the interstate. That backs up traffic for miles, and makes anything more than 50 mph impossible. Once you get past that it's a never ending deluge of morons in the left hand lane, which starts to thin out at exit 34 since it is on the left side of the interstate. However on at least 3 out of 5 days a week this left hand lane traffic persists well into Anderson, and upon hoping onto 76, you find the same left hand lane people, despite the "Slower Traffic Keep Right" signs posted ever mile and a half or so. Sometimes god will open up the middle or far right lane and you can pass everyone, but that is a rare occurrence. I deal with this everyday, so I'm pretty passionate about it.

while on the phone, either texting or talking. There is absolutely zero need to text somebody while your driving, pay attention to the ####### road. We need to take driving much more seriously in this country, and I'd start by making the drivers test harder. Half the people with drivers license's have no business behind the wheel of a car.

jail sentences. Teach this in driving school, especially make young females aware of the problems they cause on the interstate. Get off the cell phone and GTF over. I've also noticed utility vehicles like to park in the left lane, too. They should lose their jobs for it. Traffic would flow SO much better without these ######## who think the left lane is their personal driving lane. I have so much hatred for left lane idiots it's almost uncontainable sometimes. When your two cars back from one and you see that day light in the middle lane, but just can't squeeze past Gale in her Highlander, it makes you border line homicidal.

Feb 26, 2013, 9:55 AM

I can keep the speeds similar but cut 5-10 minutes off my commute because I can safely do some slicing and dicing that would be a lot more of a diik move in my car.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not true, in my recollection

Feb 26, 2013, 10:00 AM

The issue there is that too many people are on the road and trying to pass, the jostling from lane to lane in an attempt to go faster in heavy traffic causes the left lane to slow down. There's an example of where it would be better just to stay in whatever land you're in.

Definitely annoying when someone's going the speed limit or just five over in the left lane.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's not true in my experiences...

Feb 26, 2013, 10:03 AM

The jostling people do is a direct result of slower drivers in the left hand lane that refuse to get over. Look at the interstate during rush hour traffic, left lane bumper to bumper, two right lanes with sparse traffic...but just enough to not be able to pass all of the idiots in the left lane. If people simply passed and got over, you solve the problem.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why don't we just

Feb 26, 2013, 10:02 AM

call it the "How Dare Anyone Ever Inconvenience Me" Law?

MauldinT, where are you???

That won't work. You see....

Feb 26, 2013, 10:05 AM

it's not just a single, individual "me" that's being "inconvenienced".

2009_nascar_champ.gif flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly, it's also the miles and miles of traffic behind me

Feb 26, 2013, 10:07 AM

Anyone who defends riding in the left hand lane is an obvious left hand laner, and should have their license revoked immediately.

Agreed...

Feb 26, 2013, 10:05 AM

The extreme tailgater when the middle lane isn't open is just ad big of a butt head

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would agree, provided that the left lane driver is

Feb 26, 2013, 10:07 AM

progressing at a fair rate of speed. If I'm in the left lane and I'm running 10 over. Ef em. They can change lanes.

2009_nascar_champ.gif flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My experience in Atlanta is that they can already pull over

Feb 26, 2013, 10:07 AM

just about everyone in the left lane already. 90% of them are traveling at least 10mph over the posted limit.

It will be ironic, pulling someone over for traveling the speed limit in the left lane because he is slowing up the speeders who should be getting the ticket.

When I see people pulled over in Atlanta, I wonder

Feb 26, 2013, 10:09 AM

just what the frack they were doing to get pulled. That place is a race track.

2009_nascar_champ.gif flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think the threshold is somewhere around 100mph

Feb 26, 2013, 10:26 AM

Give or take a few mph. I was passed one day on I-20 by a motorcycle gang on rice rockets going well in excess of 130mph. I was doing a paltry 70mph and they passed me like I was pulled over on the side of the highway.

I guess they all survived because I kept waiting to come up on a motorcycle wrapped around a light pole or something.

If everybody's in the left lane trying to go fast

Feb 26, 2013, 10:08 AM

It doesn't help anything to switch to the passing lane anyway. Switching lanes in heavy traffic causes a bigger backup than possibly slowing somebody down in the left lane in heavy traffic.

Just to be clear, we're telling about when there's a lot of traffic, not when you can easily move right without slowing anybody down.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

See, that's the problem. Everybody in the left lane...

Feb 26, 2013, 10:12 AM

The vast majority of those individuals in the left lane have no business being there, because they have no interest in going any faster than the other traffic, they just see a couple of people do it and they follow. Also, in regards to switching lanes in heavy traffic causing a bigger backup...This could easily be solved by teaching people that it is not always necessary to slam on brakes, you can let off of the gas pedal and sufficiently slow your vehicle down on the highway. It is not necessary to nose dive your car because somebody switched lanes in front of you.

^^^YES

Feb 26, 2013, 11:18 AM

Its called drag mother farkers

use it.

Instead of bottoming out the brake pedal.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Now if SC can just create a law that says no semi-trucks in

Feb 26, 2013, 10:08 AM

the left lane between Columbia and Orangeburg on 26 (both ways)....now that would be awesome.

Good.

Feb 26, 2013, 12:45 PM

Maybe people will pay attention to the rules if they start getting fined.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This should help the morning and afternoon commute.

Feb 26, 2013, 12:54 PM

I once got stuck in the left lane on I75 in a throng of cars behind a woman who had used glass chalk to write "Speed Limit 55" on her rear windshield.

Of course, the speed limit is 70. Gotta love North Georgia.
