Just read an interestIng Clay Travis article on recruiting

Feb 8, 2013, 11:29 AM

He points out there are only about 7-8 non-SEC schools that are consistently recruiting at the level of the SEC schools. I bet you can guess who they are.

The article adds that the SEC had 7 of the top 12 classes and 13 of the top 30 this year and that it indicates the SEC will likely continue to place a team in the NC game but that the few schools recruiting at SEC level will likely have an easier path to a NC since it is typically only a two team race in their respective conferences: Clemson/FSU....Michigan/OSU.....OU/Texas....USC/Oregon.

In case some of you ACC haters are missing the point, putting Clemson in the SEC does not increase the chances of a NC and it apparently would not make much difference in recruiting. Recruiting at an SEC level and playing in the ACC almost guarantees 10 wins a year and that means there are usually only two games standing in the way of playing for a NC every year.

Miami would've been in there until a couple years ago

Feb 8, 2013, 11:32 AM

somehow, though, FSU and Miami were taking in top 10 classes every year and still finishing with around 8 wins.

but playing in the SEC would make Saturday's a LOT more interesting. Rather watch us play Tenn or Wake? Fla or NCSU? UGA or Virginia?

ACC football sucks. I love that we've gotten aggressive in our OOC scheduling...kudos to the AD for that. But watching our ACC schedule is boring.

Then don't watch or go to the games.

I watch one ACC game a week. Always will watch and pull for Clemson...doesn't mean I can't wish we were playing against other football schools.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

there is no doubt the games would be much more interesting

Feb 8, 2013, 11:50 AM [ in reply to Re: Just read an interestIng Clay Travis article on recruiting ]

we would sell more tickets.

Duke, Wake, Va, BC, Cuse, Pitt, NC, Maryland don't travel to games.

i agree 100% that a nc would be easier in the acc,but there are alot of recruits that say that they fell in love with cu campus, coaches, players, family atmosphere the whole nine yards but end up signing with an sec school simply because of its the "sec" although we get our share not like the alabamas and floridas maybe its money idk see ole miss but def. the sec name.

putting Clemson in the SEC is about revenue and more of it

Feb 8, 2013, 11:45 AM

it might help recruiting a very small bit but it would be more about $

Typical SEC Schedules and road trips don't look so great across the board. There are some nice games in here, but there are also dogs in places you'd never want to visit.

@ *Vanderbilt (9-4)....Nashville
vs. East Carolina (8-5)
vs. Alabama-Birmingham (3-9)
vs. *Missouri (5-7)
@ *Kentucky (2-10)......Lexington
vs. *Georgia (12-2)
@ *Louisiana State .....Baton Rouge
@ *Florida (11-2) ......Gainsville
vs. *Tennessee (5-7)
vs. *Arkansas (4-8)
vs. Clemson (11-2).......Clemson
Five losers

vs. Jackson State (
vs. *Auburn (3-9)
@ Troy (5-7)
vs. South Alabama (2-11)
@ *Kentucky (2-10) ....Lexington
vs. *Tennessee (5-7)
vs. Middle Tennessee State (8-4)
@ *Alabama (13-1).....Tuscaloosa
vs. *Texas A&M (11-2)
@ *Louisiana State (10-3) ...Baton Rouge
vs. *Arkansas (4-8)
@ *Mississippi (7-6) .....Oxford.

4 losers plus Jackson State and Middle Tenn with 2 nice road trips.

vs. *South Carolina (11-2)
@ Northwestern (10-3)....At Chicago!
vs. Presbyterian (non-IA)
@ *Georgia (12-2)........At Athens
@ *Missouri (5-7) ........at Columbia
vs. *Florida (11-2)
vs. *Auburn (3-9)
vs. Massachusetts (1-11)
@ *Kentucky (2-10) .....At lexington
@ *Mississippi (7-6) ...at Oxford
vs. *Tennessee (5-7)
@ Wake Forest (5-7)...at Winston Salem

On Saturdays I go to watch Clemson play. Road games in the future at Miami, Tallahasee, Boston, Pittsburgh and Atlanta promise to be fun. Games an easy drive away at UNC, Virginia, VT promise to be nice collegiate experiences AND they are all in our time zone.

Follow who you want to follow. I support Clemson.

There's only 7-8 $ec schools recruiting at "$ec level"***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It also means the bottom-dwelling SEC teams

Feb 8, 2013, 11:59 AM

should become more competitive ... ie, lessens the chance of an undefeated SEC team ...

We'll see if Slive allows that.

What you'll see is kids that verbal to SEC schools will get an additional "star" by their name in the recruiting services.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Those additional stars mean higher preseason ranking, which

Feb 8, 2013, 12:05 PM

means more mistakes can be made getting to NC, which means espn and cbs are happy.

Two thoughts on this...

Feb 8, 2013, 12:13 PM

1. For as good as Clemson's recruiting has been over the past 5 years, we do not consistently land Top 10 classes. It's consistently Top 20, with a 10-15 finish here and there. If we were in the SEC, I do believe we'd do even better. Would we land Top 10 classes every year? Probably not... But I think we'd do a little better. Ten years ago I'm not sure how much it matters, but now it does. The "SEC Factor" is alive and well, unfortunately.

2. We have a heck of a Head Coach. A guy that I feel understands his strengths and weaknesses and leverages them appropriately.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

well looking at SCar's schedule they should have a cakewalk

Feb 8, 2013, 12:21 PM

next season

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

plus the format alone guarantees an SEC school bid***

Feb 8, 2013, 12:22 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

While we do have a easier path to the BCS title in the ACC..

Feb 8, 2013, 12:48 PM

and are recruiting at a high level....

If in the SEC, I firmly believe, with this current staff we would always finish Top 10 and Top 5 every few years in recruiting. We would be at the top every year.
