New NCAA Rule Proposal

An injury to a player results in that player having to set out the remainder of the current series.

The team of the injured player

Should also not be able to go over to talk to their coaches. This may cut out a lot of "fake" injuries!

You can't legislate out "talking to coaches" You can however make them sit a series. That would accomplish two things.
1. fake injuries gone 2. serious injuries taken a better look at

I say the player has to sit out 10 minutes of the game clock.

Hotrod and all of our injured players minus Robert Smith got themselves off the field. You get yourself off the field you are not penalized.

they're less likely to be faking an injury before a punt

the fakes are usually done after first downs are made and teams are clicking off big gainers.

Then they sit out the other team's series and would not be on the field any way unless he's one of the very rare two way players.

Bet you could get ours and Oregon's and Northwestern's.
Couch it as a safety issue.

Not if he gets off on his own power. Not if it is related to a penalty like roughing the passer.
Yes - the QB is out for a series.

Saw an ESPN graphic the other day. For several years there were only 2-3 teams breaking the (I think) 80 plays per game mark on average. Last year there were 11 all of a sudden, and there will be more this year (28 did it in week 1).

How about this?

If a player is injured on more than one occasion in a half resulting ina stoppage of play, that player must sit out the remainder of that game.

Until change of downs
Sep 6, 2013, 10:44 AM

It's better and probably more agreeable if you word it to say "injured players are subject to remain on the sidelines until a change of downs has taken place" so, get a first and they can come back. Or punt etc.

I say the series.
If you noticed last week - the "hurt" player happened primarily at the end of second down play before 3rd down to saet the defense.

That would be exactly what a DC would want for swapping

personnel packages for specific downs and distances. If the rule was a set number of plays for any injury requiring a stoppage of play (maybe 3 or 4), then there would be a carryover after a new set of downs and it wouldn't allow for manipulations according to down and distance. The previous poster's point about applying this to defensive players only has some merit as it seems that most of these 'injuries' are generally stoppages for the benefit of slowing down high-paced Os. Offensive injuries present no obvious tactical advantage that I can see.

I like most of this regarding defensive "injuries", but on offense a coach may want to stop the clock to get off another play. I know we've all seen it before. The NFL has a 10-SEC runoff for this purpose for any offensive player injury.

I believe there is already a "penalty" for offensive players injuries in the last 2 minutes of the game and possibly half.
A ten second runoff, if you don't take a TO or have any left.

Am I the only one that liked the way it played out?

#5 in the country and SEC Powerhouse Georgia is begging for mercy at the end of their game against the lowly ACC foe Clemson and is mocked nationwide for faking injuries in order to slow our offense down. Youtube and the internet in general are on fire with laughter at the SEC powerhouse who couldn't hang with Clemson. Many people going back and referencing the LSU game with a similar field of fallen faux Tigers begging for mercy. You KNOW there will be scrutiny on South Carolina as ANOTHER top ranked SEC team (AND one that established conditioning questions in week 1) when we play them.
It's kind of like the UNC corruption...yeah, I kind of wish UNC got hammered appropriately by the NCAA, like I kind of wish Georgia would have been penalized during the game for their unethical behavior. But at the end of the day, I'm enjoying the fact that UNC was outted for being completely athletically and academically corrupt without having the "woe is me" or "we paid the price" angle to ease their suffering.

Some thought needs to be put in for offensive players when clock stoppage is key and not just slowing the game down. Say near the end of a quarter or half. Whether it be a 10-SEC runoff, etc. I like the idea of making defensive players sit out the remainder of a possession or at least the change of downs.

The Rule Needs to be a deterrent and not a punishment....
Sep 6, 2013, 11:08 AM
|
|
A couple of Options.....
Using the Penalty angle, call it an illegal time out and make it a 15 yard penalty....that way you don't have to call it faking.....
I like the player sitting out, but not the entire game.....that could affect us too if a player really got hurt......I say 3-5 minutes off the play clock...that could be an eternity.....

I don't understand the first option. Give them a penalty for having an injury without calling it faking? I don't think there'll be a way to penalize people for "faking" since there'll be a #### storm for the refs and the NCAA if they call it on someone that's actually hurt. Taking that player out for the series would not only penalize players/teams for faking, but ensure that any player that's really hurt would be properly evaluated on the sideline before returning. It's both an ethical safeguard and a safety precaution, and I feel like that would be well received by the rules committee.
