When Clemson whooped that A in the peach bowl in 03 did we get a big head and start saying our program was better? We did beat FSU that year too and seems like a similar year they had this year. I wasn't around I'm guessing not. They definitely seem to be the most desperate fan base that I've ever seen.

Hey man, I can answer your question.
I was a student in 2003. And was there for all of that four game stretch. I helped tear down the gold posts after beating FSU 26-10, that was actually worse, because they had a garbage time touchdown.
You left out the 63-17 victory against USC when there was only orange in Williams Brice Stadium at the start of the 4th quarter.
With Charlie Whitehurst as our QB, (keep in mind this was before deshaun or TL) I honestly thought we could hang with any team in the country. I wanted to play Oklahoma (who was all-world back then).
Then in the off season, Tommy Bowden shifted every position coach so they wouldn’t be complacent, or so he said. Brad Scott was replaced at OC by Mike OCain, who had never been an OC before.
Even at the time, I thought that was odd and misguided.
Honestly, I think Tommy did it because Jack Hines was so terrible he had to move him to another position coach, but didn’t want to make him feel bad, so he just moved everyone.
The next season we lost all momentum we had.

Tha man for your insight. That's cool to experience that! If I'm not crazy, Bowden got an extension because of that year? Everything looked up before it went awful in 2004. Still bugs me that interrupted our bowl streak because of the brawl.
Point being, count your blessings Tennessee. It might be a rough year

Tommy had a knack for signing an extension at the right time. I think he did that both seasons he won 9 games.
He was still an upgrade from West. But that’s not saying a lot.

Better parallel would be how Clemson behaved after beating Ohio State in Jan ‘14.,.
We were 11-2 and beat two top ten teams that season …
We did NOT run around screaming we’d surpassed or even caught Ohio State…
The next season Ohio State won the national title ….
I don’t think the Tenn is on the same trajectory we were on then…they caught Bama and Clemson on a down year…
Down meaning neither Clemson nor Bama made the CFP..

That is a great example actually. I was pertaining to Tennessee, but I see your point. Also OSU won the title the next year.
But as far as keeping it in your pants, you're correct.

It’s all the state of Tennessee has football wise, it’s a pretty big growing state too. The hate the fact that we got great talent from them when they couldn’t openly pay for it.
