derogatory labels. I will go ahead and post this, however. While I understand your sentiment and agree with your anger in the wake of this slaughter, we really don't know much at all about the gunman. It's beginning to come out this morning. He apparently had a form of autism that resulted in certain anti-social behaviors. Because of HIPAA, we'll never know all the details of any diagnoses he may or may not have received. The bottom line is, this was a troubled young man. A defective unit, if you will. I have no idea what went on in his brain.

Now, before some mental midget yells at me that I'm trying to excuse his actions, let me just say that is BS. Had he not taken his own life, he would have stood due process. If found mentally incompetent (which I assume he would), he would have been squirreled away where he could never harm another innocent person. Had he been found competent, he would have surely faced the death penalty.

Now, to the point. "Judge not lest you be judged." "Vengeance is mine, says the Lord." Realistically, we can be angry and bewildered by actions like these. Our anger may be misplaced, however. I would like to ask, how many people in the course of this person's 20-year life knew there was something definitely not right about him? What actions were taken as a result of that knowledge? How are weapons like those made available to him?

This massacre is not as simple as a sane person enters a school and kills a bunch of people with full awareness of his actions. We will probably never know why he did it. Judgement is God's business, however.

Now go ahead and flame me.

If he was sane or not, this was such a tragic event. I just have to keep asking why, killing your mother is horrible but there could have been issues deep in his childhood..... but to go to school and kill those kids, unspeakable. I could not sleep thinking how those poor kids thought while this was going on... there is no excuse for what he did. Just wish the SWAT team would have had to pleasure taking him down.

I'm not a psychologist, but it seems to me that killing kids at his mother's school was, in his mind, a way to hurt his mother even more. There was obviously enormous rage that boiled over in him. There was also, just as obviously, a very flawed thought process going on in his mind.

Tragic all the way around.

Actually, David, I thank you for your post, for I believe it

to be quite insightful. While we grieve over the horrendous loss, we must ask ourselves just what provoked this young man? We may be angry, even vengeful, but at some point in time I honestly believe The Almighty will provide answers to both our grief and our questions...and will deal with the soul of this fallen sheep in His own way.

Dec 15, 2012, 8:51 AM [ in reply to I will get flamed for this and called all manner of ]

As a mother and a teacher, yesterday was up there as one of the hardest, most emotional days of my life. My own child is a kindergartener, just like so many of those precious little ones who died. Your words are dead on. I see it both ways. There's no way that he was mentally sound to have been able to commit such an atrocity. We'll never get answers here on earth. I just pray that the families find peace and that my own children and students get to live a long happy life.

Agree 100%. Well said.***

put on his head and cast into the sea than to cause one of these little ones to stumble." It has to do with leading the weak of faith astray.

There are plenty of references that condemn violence and murder, however. My point in all of this is to say what he did was horrendous; why did it is well beyond our understanding.
