Per Football Scope: Virginia receivers coach Marques Hagans played quarterback for the Cavaliers and has been on staff mentoring the wide receivers for his alma mater since 2013. Now he's reportedly on the move for Penn State.

Hahah no. Scott could’ve taken many many jobs. He chose what he wanted and where he wanted. He’s at Clemson and happy with the role.

Because he took the role… his options and his decision prove this.
Love how so many try to over complicate a simple thing.

He literally just moved his family back home to Clemson.
I think he's got a plan. I would guess it's a 5-7 year plan to be at Clemson before he goes anywhere again.

There was a post earlier about stirring the pot. This is stirring, shaking, and dumping the pot.

I don’t see CJS becoming a position coach for a coach that was his peer a few years ago.

Seeing as how he has some time on his hands and the Charlottesville area is God's Country I could see him paying his old friend a visit at least and spending some time reviewing the goods.
Hope Elliott can put it together up there. Three seasons seems to be about the limit these days on head coach potential emergence.

Tony made a huge mistake dismissing their OC and canning their offensive scheme. He created mutiny and as a result has players transferring out and leaving him with very little to work with, I’m afraid Tony will be gone in 3 years. Hope not. Jeff Scott will be the next Offensive Coordinator for Clemson when Riley leaves for a head job.

Doubt it as he has never called plays and I am not sure he wants to retrace his steps

I believe Tony is in a little over his head. I give him 4 years, and he'll be out as UVA's coach. He was left with a decent team, and for some reason, instead of building on that, he chose to blow it up and start from scratch. Not real smart during this time when AD's and boosters are not patient and want to win immediately.

Not true. All (5) offensive linemen had zero starts.

That was UVA's biggest issue in 2022. He didn't blow anything up. Where are you even getting that? You totally made that entire post up.

When you get rid of your OC, who goes to Syracuse and improves their offense and then your starting QB leaves who hold the following school records: Single-Game Passing Record 554 vs. UNC (2021) Season Passing Record 4,449 (2021) Career Passing Yards 9,034 (2018-22) Single-Game Total Offense 538 vs. UNC (2021) Season Total Offense 4,700 (2021) Career Total Offense 10,301 (2018-22) Single-Game Passing TDs 5 vs. Illinois T-2 Season Passing TDs 31 (2021) Career Passing TDs 58 (2018-22) Consecutive Games with Passing TD 18 (2021-22) 200-yard Career Passing Games 25 (2018-22) 300-yard Career Passing Games 12 (2018-22) 400-yard Career Passing Games 6 (2018-22) Season Pass Completions 326 (2021) Season Passing Attempts 500 (2021) Career Passing Attempts 1,131 (2018-22) Single-Game TD Responsible For 6 vs. BYU (2021) And was also on the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award, All ACC and numerous other awards you have essentially blown up your offense. It doesn't matter how many starts your OL has without good QB play your done.

What offensive minded coach keeps the previous OC?
Jan 23, 2023, 11:04 PM

He didn't blow anything up. He started his program and new system, and he had 5 brand new OL to work around.
By the way, Syracuse was 76th on offense this year.

Syracuse' schedule was backloaded. Their offense was great in the early season when they played a bunch of nobodies. So their OC got lots of press he failed to deserve over a full season.
And I don't discount how valuable Armstrong was to his team, but literally every returning starting QB gets named to the Watch list.
Tnet makes a big deal when we get anybody named to a Watch list, but it's a check-the-box story, not really news. They report it because it's a teeny weeny bit of affirmation of athletes we all want to support. It has nothing to do with whether they are likely to win the award.

UVA and T.Elliott … J.Scott couldn’t help UVA

Tony lost his entire OL from end of 2021 to the start of 2022.
One portalled out (All American center Olutawimi), the others graduated.
UVA’s offense had no chance this past year regardless of their OC.
Unfortunately, UVA will probably be worse next year since their excellent QB Brennan Armstrong has portalled his way to NC State.
I hope that they don’t can Tony Elliott after end of 2023 season.
