Jeff Scott question

Does anyone really know what capacity he has with the team? I’ve “read” that his old contract limits what he can do but nothing definitive. Just curious and hopeful. Go Tigers!!!

I don't think any at this point.***

He is taking time off so he can spend more with his family.

Wish he come back as atleast recruiting coordinator or something, things went down hill after he left. I loved Scott and thought he was a big part to our success, I hated to see him leave.

You are confusing correlation and causation. We did go down hill after CJS left but not because he left. We had a QB who became a head case, highly rated WRs who were busts and we were slow to adapt to NIL and the portal.

Wow I think you are way off there Jstone. QB that was a headcase? That young man never had or made any trouble. Do you think maybe it had to do with coaching? He filled in for Tlaw for 2 games his freshman year and looked like a true world beater. Following season after a full year under streeter he regressed. Did not look like the same guy. Never once did you hear a negative word come out of DJ's mouth never once. Receivers? Again did we miss or was it coaching? Injuries played a big role too. NIL? School doesn't have control on NIL. Portal? Ok you win on that one. 1 out of 4 ain't bad I guess. I trust in Dabo and I believe he will adjust and surprise many.

Let me clarify. I was not trying to disrespect DJ as he handled a difficult situation with great class and dignity. But this thread is explaining what happened since CJS left the program and the fact is our QB play the last couple of years have been bad. DJ is by all accounts a hard worker. He was a baller in HS and has all the physical attributes to be a great QB. You can blame Streeter or our Offensive style but the facts don’t support either. Look at the ACCCG. He bounced a 10 yard pass to a receiver and was off target on another throw. He seemed relieved to have been replaced by Cade as a burden had been lifted. For whatever reason(s), he lost the edge which is the mental aspect of the game.

Thank you for clarifying and you are spot on that. I hope coach DS can get Scott back. Happy and much respect for Scott for wanting to be husband and father right now but my selfish side wants him back sooner rather than later.

You're trying to find a quick fix and blame it all on coaching. Jeff Scott is not the be all end all like some people are making him out to be.

Perhaps but it's a fact receiver play and recruiting took a nose dive after he left.

It took nosedive before he left. He left at the end of 2019, it was still his guys for the next 2-3 years.

Don't forget that those games when DJ filled in he was throwing to 2 5th-year WRs that both ended up the next year in NFL training camps. Both Cornell Powell (the deep target) and Amari Rogers (the underneath stuff) had the most productive games of their college careers because our offensive staff took a break from our normal tendencies to help DJ utilize his skills instead of simply filling in for TLaw.

Not an off the field headcase—DJ's football faculties were chaotic as a play caller-

I feel about the same as you bc, when Jeff left, I saw what has happened, happening without Jeff Scott. I was really angry when he left but bite my tongue and didn't have much to say about it bc I'm that type that will tell it like I see it. And I kept my mouth shut bc I saw it as a good opportunity for Jeff, but since he failed as a HC, it pissses me off even more that he left bc it did help ruin a lot of what our Tigers had going on at that time!!!!!!!!

When it was announced, it was in an "analyst and recruiting role." The NCAA limits the number of on-field assistants, which accounts for the boom in the analysts positions in major programs.

I would think that Jeff Scott (like a lot of fired head coaches) has an offset in his buyout, so a lower paying analyst role will be good for both Clemson and him (not costing him the USF money).

There was so much speculation about the hiring of Jeff Scott that was occurring while he was still coaching USF , some of us ( myself included ) got way ahead of our skis in believing he was almost assuredly headed back to Clemson. Our recruiting had come under fire and the two seemed like a natural fit.

Personally , my hopes grew when he announced he's returning back to his Clemson residence. Why live here instead of anywhere in Florida , or most anywhere of choice actually , unless part of your love for the place is is understandably attached to the university ? Why subject yourself ( and others in your orbit ) to the unrelenting questions of when do you plan to return if that answer is never ? I don't know the answer .

I'm sure he and Dabo still have an awesome relationship and the two talk frequently I would assume. ( Wouldn't you like to be a fly on the wall ? )

We will have to exercise patience and see how things shake out with the new staff. We may have some guys that have just yet to bloom and Riley is going to throw some fertilizer on them and watch em sprout. That's what I'm telling myself. I'm also telling myself that if things were as dire as we fear they are Dabo and Jeff would have already had a press conference and one is waiting in the wings if things go further south.

We're going to be ok folks. Trust Dabo

He’s working privately at the summer practices for free to help us out a little as we vie for the chance to take the dawgs out and laugh at the coots as we break the scoreboard on them in dominant fashion unless our SEC membership is still not complete then we’ll take it easy on them.

We let them win so we could have an easy route getting in the SEC. They believe they can compete with us after the 1 point gift.

Soon as the deal is done we will roll over them.
