Red is known to just show up with fifths of whisky/bourbon with no notice, so I typically dont buy it either. I always forget I have a fifth of fireball tucked away in the lock box in my truck. I suppose that will be my Thanksgiving treat.

Scotch - Laphroaig, especially the 31 year old.
Bourbon - Jefferson's Presidential Select. Got it last Christmas and without having yet laid taste buds on Pappy, it's far and away the best I've ever had.
Irish - Bushmills. ONLY. Like a true son of Antrim County would ever raise any inferior papist swill to his lips.
Blended - As blends go, I'm not a connoisseur, but one of the most interesting I've tried lately was Rogue Dead Guy Whiskey.

hit a few places in Charleston last night for dinner/drinks/dessert. The Warehouse and Cypress had both obtained their Pappy in the past few weeks, and both had at least a few pours out of them. Didn't look at the prices at either of these places, but I know at Husk they're from $30 all the way up to $75 for the 23 year...for an oz.
I still ain't had it, and at those prices, it won't be happening anytime soon.

Prefer any scotch over any bourbon even mid priced blends

like Dewars or Cutty.
I've been drinking single malt Abelour mostly these days.
I do prefer bourbon or Irish whiskey for shots but for sipping, it ain't even close.
