That’s horrible. Motorcycles…one of the reasons I have told my kids they can have one when they are no longer on my insurance…and hoping they will grow out of the urge by then.

I've had several over the years, starting in high school...

A Yamaha 400 Special, a Kawasaki KZ 1000 LTD, and my personal favorite, a Harley Davidson Sportster

I can't begin to count how many close calls I had due to do distracted or inattentive drivers. I got rid of my last bike when I got married and my wife and I started our family. Way too many idiots on the roads these days which is exacerbated by electronic mobile devices.

Yeah…didn’t mean to make it sound like I an anti-motorcycle. I realize life is dangerous and something can happen at any time, even when you have taken all the precautions you can. However, to your point…you just can’t account fr what the other guy might do…and there’s not a lot of margin for the bike rider.

Feel horrible for the student’s family and friends.

I used to love them. Then I lost a friend who rode when a driver turned left in front of him on a residential street. After his death I lost any real desire for one. THis was years ago. They way people are distracted w phone / text these days I wouldn't ever want one.

Absolutely critical to take a motorcycle safety class...will save your life

You'll never be completely safe, but those classes really put you in the correct frame of mind....
NEVER, ever assume what the cars around you will do. DO assume that they don't see you and will swerve/stop/turn right into you.

I love to ride, but I long ago gave up commuting to work. As much as I can help it, I stick to the country roads.

i agree that there are too many idiots on the road especially the ones

with cell phones, but i just can't give up my motorcycle. i currently ride a harley heritage classic after totaling my lowrider when an idiot pulled out in front of me. he said he didn't see me. of course, he had a cell phone in his hand, in spite of georgia having a law against it.

Many of the bike riders I have encountered think they own the road. At red traffic lights, they swerve in and out of traffic so they can get in front of the traffic. Most tailgate terribly. I back them off of that idea very quickly. They speed quite often and are extremely loud. However, I do realize there are good bike riders out there and I feel for this family. One of my best friend died riding a cycle.

Evidently, the car who hit the student on the motorcycle was also driven by a student. Tragic all the way around.

I have had a Harley for 50 years.

All who live in the Upstate read tourist die here every week.

No one with a brain rides a bike.

It is not all about the rider, but other MF's on the road.

say that to the guy that drives between cars at 80 MPH in traffic. But I say all kids should have to drive motorcycles so that the ones who live can go on to great things, and those who don't stop draining the system with their stupidity.

Very sad for all involved. So sorry for them and their families. Like many here, I used to ride motorcycles, and loved it, but once I was a father, I gave it up. Miss riding sometimes, but I realize now, my reflexes have slowed too much. Too many close calls.

I am late to post, but it is simple. I hurt every time a motorcyclists gets hurt. I have been there and touching one when he took his last breathe! The motorcycle did NOTHING. I have been riding for 52 years. I have been hurt, and hurt pretty bad, but it was NEVER the motorcycle’s fault. It was all on ME! You have to be alert, and you have to predict what is in front of you. You predict for the worst, and prepare accordingly.

Sorry for the rant, but even sorrier for the family.

The vast majority of motorcycle accidents and deaths are single vehicle...

In other words, just the motorcycle and pure operator error. So motorcycles absolutely need to watch other drivers closely, but sadly the main culprit for motorcycle accidents is poor riding skills!

I about killed a guy on 77 changing lanes. Never seen the guy until he was going around me in the grass. I know he had to have shizzed his pants on that one. Felt horrible but he did one heck of job saving him and his bike.

Sometimes you just don’t see them and this was before cell phones were a thing.

I drive a Ford Ranger and have had more than a few scary moments on 93. Speed, texting, phoning ,aggression . Maybe a few cops there instead of $$ trapping on the downhill run toward Macs.
