The NCAA added automatic ejection in addition to a 15-yard penalty for targeting in 2013. All ejections were subject to video review, and ejected players were forced to sit out the first half the next game as well. The rule was modified in last season, wiping out the 15-yard penalty if the ejection was overturned on review. I don't know where you get his penalty was sitting out the second half.

The rule states that players who target and hit defenseless opponents above the shoulders will be ejected and a 15-yard penalty will be assessed. If the foul occurs in the first half of a game, the player is ejected for the remainder of that game. If it happens in the second half or overtime, the player is ejected and must sit during

I do not believe that you are correct. I am pretty sure that you sit out the next half, e.g., the 2nd half of last night's game. Do you have a copy of the rule?

so, if someone is called for targeting right before the end of a half (like Green was with 2:30 in the 2nd), or end of a game, they really only sit out a little more than a half. Not that you would ever plan on getting yourself ejected.

If the foul occurs in the first half of a game, the player is ejected for the remainder of the game. If the foul occurs in the second half or overtime of a game, the player is ejected for the remainder of the game and the first half of the next contest."

Not true. You sit out the "next " half. It happened in the first half and he sat the second half. He has served his suspension.

The election is for 2 halfs (partial halfs count). If the targeting happens in the first two quarters the election is for that game only. If the targeting happens in the third or fourth quarter then they miss first half of next game.

if the penalty occurs in the first half
Dec 6, 2015, 8:39 PM
|
|
Then the player must leave the playing arena ( go to the locker room ) for the remainder of the first half and the entire second half of that game. If the penalty happens in the second half, then the player must sit out the remainder of second half of that game plus the first half of next game.
TJ was ejected in first half, so his time has been served. He's good to start the Oklahoma game.

The BY FAR easiest way to remember this f%(*ing rule

Since there have been 30 G0d d4mned threads about this:
If a player is ejected for targeting, they are out for the rest of the current half and the entirety of the next half of play (barring last game of the season, I doubt the NCAA would go that far, but hey, why not)

You have to sit out the current half, and the first half of the next game. However, if you are in your final game of the year, and in the final half of play, then I guess you only have to sit out the last half.
TJ Green will play in the next game - ALL OF IT.
